The latest release from the Glenfiddich Grand Series collection is a 31-year-old single malt finished in Bordeaux wine casks and presented in a special packaging designed by French street artist André Saraiva
A liquid masterpiece, a conversation starter, or a collector’s dream—call it what you may, but the limited-edition Glenfiddich Grand Château from the Glenfiddich Grand Series collection is anything but ordinary. It is the first-of-its-kind single malt from the storied Scotch distillery that has been finished in red wine barrels, sourced from the great winemaking region that is Bordeaux.
First matured for 22 years in American oak casks, the liquid goes through another nine-year-long ageing process in Bordeaux wine casks. More than just a cask finish, the secondary maturation transforms it into an exquisite blend of Scottish tradition and French flair. Such finishes are few and far between, giving significance to the Glenfiddich Grand Château as a rarity in the whisky world and what makes it a collectible.

“Bordeaux red wine casks are incredibly versatile sources of flavour,” shares Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich’s malt master, on their widely recognised quality. “Nine years spent cocooned in Bordeaux red wine casks results in an exceptionally vibrant liquid which intensifies Glenfiddich’s classic fruity character balanced somewhat unusually with notes of deep oak and warming vanilla.”
The nose unfurls with aromas of coconut and vanilla, followed by a burst of ripe cassis and piquant nuts. Enhanced by the Bordeaux casks, the liquid develops a rich and indulgent palate, revealing layers of caramelised cherry, crisp apple, warming spices and toasted oak. This culminates in a long, satisfying finish.

Touching on the collectibility of the Glenfiddich Grand Château, Kinsman explains, “Although wine is becoming an increasingly popular choice for maturation within the single malt category, it remains relatively rare to see whiskies finished in a Bordeaux red wine cask.”
What truly sets this release apart is its collaboration with French street artist André Saraiva. Known for his iconic character ‘Mr. A,’ Saraiva infused his playful spirit into every aspect of the Glenfiddich Grand Château—from the striking packaging to the vibrant campaign visuals. Along with designing the traditional Toile De Jouy display box, Saraiva has also created ‘The Artist’s Edition’. This limited-edition outer casing features a twist on the traditional Toile de Jouy print, with Saraiva applying his signature Mr A. motif—a cheeky disruption reflecting the essence of both Glenfiddich and Saraiva’s artistic vision. Only 250 of these limited-edition packaging exist, making them rarer as they are desirable.

For the uninitiated, Saraiva is widely recognised as a genre-defining artist. As the first graffiti artist to paint a character in place of the traditional tag name, he quickly became known as Paris’ most active street artist. Since then, “Mr.A” has been painted over 300,000 times across six continents, including cameos in global brand campaigns with luxury brands such as Chanel and Louis Vuitton. A regular showing in museums and contemporary art galleries around the world, Saraiva’s largest exhibition was an impressive wall of tiles installed in Lisbon, commissioned by the city that spanned over 10,000 square feet.
The collaboration with Saraiva ultimately symbolises a bold step forward for Glenfiddich, showcasing its commitment to innovation in both whisky-making and artistic expression.
The Grand Château is the latest edition and is the oldest one yet, from the exclusive Glenfiddich Grand Series—a rare collection that celebrates the unexpected marriage of two traditional worlds, taking luxury to a new level. Other highly collectible past editions include the Grand Yozakura, a limited edition 29-year-old whisky, the first single malt Scotch whisky to be finished in rare ex-Awamori casks; and the Grande Couronne, a 26-year-old Scotch whisky matured in American and European oak casks and finished for up to two years in meticulously sourced French cognac casks.
