Craving a sweet treat? A pavlova will satisfy just that—here's where to get it:

If you're bored of the usual chiffon cakes and baked goods that come your way, then maybe it's time to indulge in a new sweet treat: a pavlova! Originally from Oceania, a pavlova is made with a crisp meringue crust and a fluffy marshmallow-like centre. A play on textures and tastes, it often incorporates sweet or tart fruits to add complexity. In Metro Manila, some of the best pavlova purveyors include:

1. Pavlova MNL

Pavlova MNL was perhaps one of the first bakeshops out there to have really popularised this dessert. Opened in 2015, this Quezon City bakery plays around with various fruity mixes, including strawberries, passionfruit, mango, and kiwi. Order mini pavlovas or pavlovas with two layers—whatever you want for your sweet tooth, they're sure to deliver!

2. Costumbre

Chef Carlos Villaflor was the man who first introduced us to Costumbre, a bakery that specialises in cookies, cheesecakes, bread, and pavlovas. Made with a delicious, light filling, their pavlova comes with a playful medley of fruit toppings, including mangoes, strawberries, and kiwis. Last Valentine's Day, Costumbre also released a limited edition berry pavlova that came topped with homemade chocolate mousse and berry jam.

3. Cloudé

We first had a taste of Cloudé through their bestselling tres leches cakes. This time, we're coming back for something a little different—their pavlovas! Luxurious and always beautifully presented, Cloudé's pavlova is made with organic strawberries and edible gold leaf. To add a little sparkle, they've also added a little diamond sparkle for that added touch of shine. Delicious and eye-catching to say the least.

4. The Daily Knead

The Daily Knead innovates pavlova through three amazing flavours. They have the classic, made with vanilla custard, seasonal fruits, and dark chocolate; the cheesecake pavlova which brings fusion dessert to a whole new meaning with lemon curd, cream cheese frosting, and a yummy marshmallow centre. Lastly, the Thai mango, featuring Thai coconut custard, mango puree, pulverised toasted rice, and fresh mangoes on top!

5. Wildflour

A Philippine-inspired pavlova that puts our national fruit front and centre, Wildflour's strawberry and mango pavlova is an absolute treat. Generously layered with plenty of fruit, it is only available through pick-up at their branches but comes in a 5-inch and 9-inch size. Perfect as a personal treat or one to share with family.

Modern Thai cuisine is best reinterpreted by People's Palace, a popular Makati restaurant in Greenbelt 3. Made with both mango and passionfruit, their pavlova comes as a sweet accompaniment to their list of curries, Thai mains, and salads. Best enjoyed for dine-in, it's a refreshing Asian interpretation of a classic Oceania dessert.

7. Antipodean Cafe

A favourite to frequent by those in Legaspi village, Antipodean Cafe serves an array of delightful desserts that include a mini pavlova. Best paired with coffee, it's a delightful sweet treat that won't overwhelm.
