The all-day venue builds on the spaceship-inspired Chinese cuisine of Auntie Ayi in new and approachable ways

In late November, we covered the opening of Wellwellwell, a zany and outlandish all-day dining venue from the mind of Amanda Cheung that is divided into three concepts, or "wells". With the first well, formal restaurant space Auntie Ayi, now settled into its new surrounds, Wellwellwell has announced the opening of its second well, Teahouse/Barhouse.

Found just outside the curtained entrance to Auntie Ayi, Teahouse/Barhouse is a cafe-like space that morphs into a cocktail bar at night. During the day, Teahouse serves cha chaan teng-inspired fare, ranging from dim sum and pineapple bun sandos, to street-style egg waffles and heftier mains like lap cheong carbonara and Sichuan mapo bolognese spaghetti.

At night, Barhouse welcomes after-work drinkers with a menu of cocktails inspired by Chinese drinking culture. On the short but concise cocktail list are mainstays that incorporate Shaoxing wine in subtle riffs on classic cocktails, such as the Mirror Lake Mist (mezcal, Shaoxing wine, bianco vermouth, citrus shrub) and the Shaoxing Mustache (gin, rye whiskey, Fernet Hunter, Shaoxing wine, tiki bitters); alongside a rotating selection of cocktails that focus on seasonal flavours. Drinkers can also satiate their appetite on skewers like Guangxi ginger scallion chicken, Xinjiang lamb and cumin, or Nanyang peanut pork satay.

As with Auntie Ayi, sci-fi-inspired design underlines the interior of Teahouse/Barhouse, although a brighter palette, curvilinear furnishings and chrome accents prime the space for all-day usage. That's not to say the environment will be as sterile as a spaceship: at night, Barhouse promises traditional drinking games to enliven the atmosphere, taking after the rowdy atmosphere of a Chinese drinking den.

Teahouse/Barhouse is now open for walk-ins only from 11am to 11pm daily.
