1. Cava Café

Cava Café is the latest addition to the Upper Thomson dining enclave that offers an all-day brunch menu. More than the classic brunch favourites—think traditional English breakfast, and pancakes with bacon and eggs—diners can also savour unique dishes like the röffles platter and otah bruschetta. The platter is a mouth-watering collection of freshly made rosti waffles, juicy pork sausages, and sauteed wild mushrooms dressed in a tangy lime hollandaise sauce. The second recommendation is an oven-baked otah set atop light and crisp bruschetta, and served with a side of keropok fries.

2. Two Bake Boys

This popular home-based bakery has opened its first brick-and-mortar café, located at Rest Bugis Hotel. At the café, get to enjoy its best-selling cakes, including the Thai tea crepe cake. The cake comprises meticulously assembled layers of fresh cream and handmade milk tea-infused crepe, accompanied with a creamy Thai milk tea sauce.

Apart from cakes, look forward to a range of savoury mains and sides. Try the business class breakfast, inspired by Singapore Airlines’ in-flight menu, and savour a plate of scrambled eggs, juicy German pork sausage, sautéed mushrooms and buttery brioche. Vegetarian-friendly dishes are also available, including the Thai green curry pasta, made with plant-based Quorn meatballs.

3. USD Café

At USD Café, everything is upside down—step through its inverted entrance doors and you will encounter paintings, tables and as well as the toilet fastened onto the ceiling. This quirky theme sets the stage for a fun dining experience where you’ll be able to savour a variety of brunch staples such as mashed avocado and sour cream on toast, hearty egg mayo ham croissant, and kaya butter toast. Accompany the meal with the rosy white coffee, featuring the café’s signature Ipoh cold brew mixed with aromatic rose paste.

4. Grub

The casual café by husband-wife duo, Mervyn and Amanda Phan, has found a new home along Stevens Road. Previously situated at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio park, this beloved eatery dishes up hearty international fare with an Asian twist. Begin the meal with soft tacos filled with succulent pork belly dressed in teriyaki sauce and pico de gallo.

Then, sink your teeth into the har cheong fried chicken with waffles. An Asian take on the classic chicken and waffles, this dish sees tender and juicy chicken marinated in shrimp paste and deep-fried until crispy golden brown. Best of all, it comes with fluffy waffles, maple syrup and a choice of sambal or plain mayonnaise. Save room for dessert, as the salted caramel chocolate tart is not one to miss. The rich tart is generously filled with layers of dark chocolate ganache, salted caramel, and chocolate popping candy.

5. Am I Addicted Ceramic Studio & Café

Tatler Asia

Head to this ceramic studio and café, and savour a range of Korean-inspired vegetarian dishes. For something filling, the rich and earthy risotto prepared with barley and doenjang (bean paste), and then finished with mushrooms and truffle oil.

Spice lovers can opt for the torta di riso pasta, consisting of spaghetti and rice cakes bathed in a spicy and tangy tteokbokki sauce, served with vegan squid and vegan shrimp. Wash these down with its refreshing strawberry chung (preserved puree made with fruits and sugar) milk. The concoction is a mix of fresh strawberries, 100 per cent handmade strawberry chung, and milk.
