Collaborating with some of the city's popular restaurants, Mind HK hopes to raise awareness and funds for mental health support

Studies have indicated that the more often people eat with others, the more likely they are to feel happy and satisfied with their lives. It is with this in mind that local mental health charity, Mind HK, is hosting the city’s first Mental Health Restaurant Week to bring people together while raising awareness and funds in the name of more accessible and stigma-free mental health support for everyone in Hong Kong.

In conjunction with Mind HK's fifth-anniversary celebrations, Mental Health Restaurant Week 2022 - Food for Thought & Time to Talk will take place from October 15 to 30 and features special offers, creative dishes and donations from more than 50 restaurants across the city.

Participating restaurants such as Louise will be donating a portion of sales from their signature yellow roasted chicken, while other venues including Shady Acres is donating profits from the sale of their O.G Impossible Cheeseburger; Matchali is donating proceeds from the sale of their Tranquil-tea and whisking workshops; and Cookie Department is donating proceeds from a cookie that they have created for the cause.

This, along with the funds and efforts of many other venues, will go towards growing Mind HK’s iACT (Improving Access to Community Therapies) programme which will train new mental health therapists (wellbeing practitioners); provide free or low-cost, evidence-based therapy to thousands of people; and help create a sustainable long-term solution for the mental healthcare problem in Hong Kong.

According to research conducted in March 2022 by Mind HK, approximately 1 in 5 people has experienced symptoms of a mental health problem and over 50% have reported having poor mental wellbeing, yet more than 48% of respondents who had been diagnosed with a mental health problem reported that they had never disclosed their problem to anyone.

Hoping to encourage social connection and more open conversations around mental health, Mind HK invites all to dine out with friends, family and loved ones, at any of the participating restaurants during Mental Health Restaurant Week—not only to help improve our own mental health but also to help ensure that no one has to face a mental health problem alone.
