Staying healthy helps stave off illness and eating healthy food is especially important while the Covid pandemic is still at large, and as we go through the changing seasons

At Café Malacca, Hong Kong’s most authentic Malaysian and Singapore street food restaurant, the menu is full of delicious dishes that are packed with healthy ingredients such as herbs and spices that are not only nutritious but full of aromatic flavours to delight the palate.

Dishes such as Malaysian chicken curry, Singapore laksa, Penang assam laksa (above), otak-otak and Malay fried chicken feature turmeric, otherwise called ‘the golden spice’, with its healthy active ingredient curcumin—known to be anti-inflammatory and an antioxidant—that helps prevent certain chronic diseases. Penang assam laksa also includes tamarind, which is said to promote digestive health through its substantial dietary fibre. Tamarind is also said to lower cholesterol and is a good source of iron.

The popular dish Klang bak kut teh is made with herbs and spices including dong quai, fennel seeds, star anise, cinnamon, cloves and garlic, which are also anti-inflammatory and help prevent chronic illness.

Many of Café Malacca’s dishes feature red chilli peppers, which are said to reduce cholesterol and boost immunity. Keep eating healthy!
