This charismatic South Korean boyband has a big following and an even bigger appetite

Over the past few years, red-hot South Korean boy band BTS (also known as Bangtan Sonyeondan) has skyrocketed to fame as their music reached fans all over the world while gaining a reputation for being one of the hardest working groups in the music industry. Since their debut in 2013, the band has strived for world domination with their motivational songs, sleek choreography and, of course, their down-to-earth personalities. In between producing songs, rehearsals and preparing for concerts, the members often appear in their self-produced reality shows, YouTube videos and livestreams where they are often seen chowing down on their best-loved eats.

Here are just some of their favourites, and where you can find them in Singapore.

1. Korean Barbecue

It is no surprise that BTS are fans of Korean barbecue. In fact, in the game show New Yang Nam Show, the group mentioned that they once ate around US$590 worth of Korean barbecue.

2. Jajangmyeon

Fragrant noodles tossed in a thick black bean sauce, jajangmyeon is BTS’ favourite noodle dish, among many. Head to Obba Jjajang for a taste of this rich and earthy dish—its handmade noodles are chewy and springy, and served with tender diced pork, sweet and caramelised onions and chujang (thick black bean sauce).

3. Kimchi

Kimchi is a must-have in any Korean household. The band has been seen making and devouring kimchi in their variety shows Run BTS and Bon Voyage on the regular.
 
Making traditional kimchi can take hours—even days. If you'd rather have a quick fix, take a trip to Pink Candy Korean Restaurant instead. Diners can relish an assortment of this traditional side dish—including apple kimchi, radish kimchi, and cucumber kimchi. Try its traditional variety, which contains napa cabbage mixed with a wonderful medley of spices (Korean chilli powder, garlic and fish sauce).

4. Gimbap

In one of the band’s V live videos (a South Korean livestreaming service), we have noticed Jungkook and Jimin making and savouring this flavourful dish. Similar to sushi, gimbap is made with cooked rice, vegetables and meat rolled in crisp seaweed. According to Jimin: “Making gimbap is not hard … many people think so, but it is not hard at all”.
 
Visit Pocha In A Forest to satisfy your gimbap cravings. This bistro serves up authentic gimbap, among other street snacks. Diners can look forward to an assortment of flavours, including beef, tuna and vegetable. Try its beef gimbap, which consists of assorted vegetables and sweet marinated beef.

5. Naengmyeon

Another one of BTS’ favourite noodle dish is naengmyeon. Served cold, this dish is made of noodles served in an iced beef broth, and accompanied by Korean pear, cucumber, radish and a boiled egg. Its noodles are made from a combination of flour and starch (including buckwheat and sweet potato), to create a chewy consistency.
 
At Noodle Star K, a Korean noodle speciality restaurant, each refreshing bowl of naengmyeon is made with handmade noodles and best eaten with mustard and vinegar dressing. Diners can also opt for its bibim naengmyeon, which includes spicy gochujang (red chilli paste) dressing.

6. Pizza

One of BTS’ favourite fast food is pizza. Especially while touring overseas, it is common to catch this band with a couples of slices in hand.
 
Savour a comforting slice at Go Pizza. Originally from South Korea, this eatery serves up fresh fire-baked pizza, made on the go. Look forward to an assortment of flavours, including fire chicken,  bacon potato, and yangnyum (seasoned) chicken. Its Korean bulgogi pizza is a crowd favourite—a light and fluffy dough base topped with juicy mushrooms, mayonnaise, and tender beef marinated in sweet bulgogi sauce.
