Located within the Star Street Precinct, Blue Bottle’s new branch in Wan Chai offers an urban oasis of tranquillity where guests can enjoy quality coffee and delicious brunch eats in a stylish setting

On a quiet corner of Star Street Precinct, hidden within Wan Chai’s frenetic pace and eclectic maze of restaurants and boutique shops, there’s a new cafe waiting for you to explore. Blue Bottle, the well-loved artisanal coffee joint serving single-origin coffees and home-roasted beans, just opened its third branch in Hong Kong last week, much to the delight of café hoppers across the city.

Spanning across three floors and featuring 180-degree panoramic windows on all the levels, the new space is the brand’s largest branch in Hong Kong yet, and is thoughtfully designed to reflect the neighbourhood’s unique history as the home to the city’s first electric power station. LA-based design studio wrk-shp is the brains behind the coffee shop’s design, working with local furniture label Twenty One From Eight to create a space that’s cosy and welcoming.

Through the use of materials, colour palettes and special lighting, each floor symbolises the celestial bodies—the sun, moon and stars—with reference to the streets in the area, where guests will be able to enjoy a variety of coffee drinking experiences. For example, a gold stainless steel-themed design has been incorporated into the ground floor to symbolise the brightness of the sun; while oxidised brass patterns and matte yellow mosaic tiles are added to the first and second floors respectively, to mimic the craters on the moon and twinkling stars.

In the café, aside from the grab-and-go counter which offers beverages including specialty coffees, teas and sparkling drinks, there’s also a drip coffee bar with a cosy seating area along the window offered on the first floor. Upstairs to the top floor, spaces are more relaxed with different types of lounge seating such as benches and long tables offered for guests to spend an afternoon enjoying great drinks and people-watching.

Meanwhile, the new branch boasts a location-exclusive food menu featuring a tempting array of brunch eats such as ham and cheese frittata croissant sandwich supplied by local bakery, Miam Bakery; waffles with salads featuring fresh homegrown vegetables; grilled sandwiches; as well as yoghurt bowls.

A capsule collection has also been launched to celebrate the opening of the new branch, which features different unique branded pieces including T-shirts, baseball caps and The Blue Bottle Coffee x Human Made Future coffee blends. The collection is available for purchase at all three Blue Bottle branches, and K11's online design store from now till December 22.
