In its sophomore year, the Austrian Wine Festival is back with a month-long celebration featuring over 60 Austrian wines paired with the cuisine from 12 restaurants. This is a noteworthy chance to taste a wide variety of handcrafted Austrian red, white and sublime dessert wines, which due to their limited export, tend to be showcased only at exclusive restaurants.

The fest kicks off with an Opening Dinner on 15 October at Brasserie Wolf, featuring Singapore-based Austrian chefs from Les Amis, Esmirada, and more. One of the dishes to look out for is the beef bourguignon, a tenderly braised stew with bacon and baby onions in red wine, which is ideally paired with a lean pinot noir like the Grillenhugel 2007 from Johanneshof Reinisch, or the spicier Blaufrankisch Alte Reben 2006 from Weininger.
Thereafter, enjoy wine-pairing menus, tutored wine dinners, and retail discounts at partner establishments. Another dish of note is the foie gras topped with pan-seared rosemary quail breast, served on walnut and fig bread, accompanied by a sweet-savoury port wine brown reduction from Angelo’s kitchen – a classic dish executed perfectly for their four-course dinner. Match it to glasses of Riesling Engelreich 2009 from Huber.
For possibly the most exciting wine to come out of Austria in recent years, head to Song of India for the four-course dinner, which includes a lentil shorba laced with truffle oil, to be paired with tart Grüner Veltliner Dechant Alte Reben Kamptal Res 2008 from Jurtschitsh. Austrian Grüner Veltliner grapes have received acclaim in recent years, deserved so as they are extremely crisp, fresh and reflecting the cooler terroir of Austria. Till 15 November.
