The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) will host its 21st Global Summit here in the Philippines, introducing international speakers such as activist Melati Wijsen and diplomat Ban Ki-Moon

Tourism is set to rebound this 2022. With cases declining and more people booking flights, it only seems natural that the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) would deem our country the perfect location for its 21st Global Summit. Known as one of the major travel events in the world, the Global Summit will bring together a network of dignitaries and luminaries in the travel sector. “Our Global Summit is the most influential Travel & Tourism event in the calendar," says Julia Simpson, CEO and President of the WTTC. "We are looking forward seeing our Members, industry leaders and key government representatives gather in Manila in April to continue our efforts in safely restoring international travel.”

Its exact date is from April 20-22, 2022. It will be a hybrid event with in-person activities around Manila and a global audience joining in online. "Tourism has always provided us with endless opportunities. The reopening of our destinations and borders amid the pandemic is crucial to sustaining the livelihood of the millions who depend on travel and tourism," notes Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat. We are looking forward to being your gracious host in Manila as we navigate the next normal in the travel industry.”

A handful of key speakers is set to join the summit; on centre stage is Melati Wijsen, an Indonesian activist who was named one of Time magazine's "World's Most Influential Teens" after she began Bye Bye Plastics, a youth-powered movement aimed at eliminating plastic bags.

South Korean diplomat, Ban Ki-moon, will also present his ideas and address foreign delegates. Tourism Ministers from countries such as Spain, South Africa, Maldives, and Japan will also be at the event. “It is heartening that these inspiring individuals have joined our efforts to bring the industry onward to full recovery," Secretary Puyat adds.
