This month, Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts announced the opening of Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa in Thilamaafushi, a nine-hectare strip of paradise surrounded by a lagoon and coral reefs. The 141-villa resort marks the French hospitality brand's first property in this vibrant island destination. As it happens, the stunning archipelago itself inspired the resort's design, celebrating its rich marine life, coral reefs and unique island culture all in Le Méridien’s distinct Bauhaus aesthetic.

Respectful odes to the natural environment permeate throughout the resort, from the farm-to-table offerings at Waves Café to the family-friendly Greenhouse where micro-green planting and foraging classes are available.

Then there's the Marine Hub, where conservation programmes on turtles, mangrove and seagrass protection and more offer guests a chance to understand the importance of preserving their surroundings. Home to one of the Maldives’ largest state-of-the-art hydroponic farms, the resort is also the first to offer the Thilamaafushi Marine Master’s programme to help youngsters learn more about the island paradise, led by the resident marine biologist.

Global cuisine and local fare combine with fanfare at Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa, ensuring that there's something for every one, whether it be the adults-only Riviera bar with its own ocean-front infinity pool or the signature Tabemasu restaurant, where guests can savour an authentic omakase tasting menu.

Spa and fitness aficionados will doubtless approve of the Explore Spa by Le Méridien and the Waves Lifestyle Hub, a boutique lifestyle space that includes a fitness studio facing the ocean and a yoga pavilion elevated above the jungle.
