Hollywood's A-List know a thing or two about enjoying the finer things in life, so it's no surprise that some of them are banking on the hotel business. We check out celebrity-owned hotels around the world, from a 19th-century Italian palazzo to a five-star eco-retreat in Australia

Hugh Jackman: Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat, Queensland, Australia

Within the gates of Hugh Jackman's Gwinganna Lifestyle Retreat is something kind of magical; a 500-acre property where wallabies roam and fruit orchards bloom, and where weary travellers come to disappear into nature's healing embrace.

Voted Best Luxury Eco Spa in the 2021 World Spa Awards, Gwinganna offers individualised, immersive wellness and detox programmes that comprise fitness—from gentle pilates, yoga and qi gong to heart-pumping HIIT classes—wellness talks led by experts, and nourishing meals.

Surrounded by ocean and valley views in a hidden region of the Tallebudgera Valley, Gwinganna is just 20 kilometres from Coolangatta Airport, and 10 minutes from Burleigh Heads.

Francis Ford Coppola: Palazzo Margherita, Bernalda, Italy

Oscar-winning director Francis Ford Coppola has six hotels in his portfolio of properties, The Family Coppola Hideaways, including island escapes in Belize and a charming boutique hotel in Argentina. His pride and joy, however, is Palazzo Margherita in the southern Italian town of Bernalda—the birthplace of Coppola's grandfather.

Housed in a19th-century estate, Palazzo Margherita is a dreamy hideaway, rife with romantic touches inspired by days gone by. Think pastel-shaded frescoes, chevron floor tiles, lacy wall friezes and arched entryways that lead to leafy courtyards. Cinematic—and oh, so Coppola.

There are just nine rooms at Palazzo Margherita, including seven suites, all designed by Jacques Grange and the Coppola family themselves. Suite Four, for example, was designed by Francis’ daughter and acclaimed director, Sofia Coppola.

Donatella Versace: Palazzo Versace, Dubai, UAE

This 215-room hotel at Jaddaf Waterfront is unapologetically over the top—a trait that is characteristically Versace.

The interiors are heavily adorned with Versace touches; the generous use of marble, framed fashion sketches and Versace scarves, Greek fret borders and of course, the brand's iconic Medusa insignia, which can be found literally everywhere. From the large outdoor pool to the bottom of glass tumblers.

There is also a Palazzo Versace hotel in Australia's Gold Coast, which is equally flamboyant.

Robert de Niro: Greenwich Hotel, New York, USA

The achingly cool Greenwich Hotel in New York City's Tribeca has been a favourite with the fashion set and A-list celebrities since it opened in 2008.

The 88-room hotel is known and loved for its Japanese-inspired Shibui spa, its Italian restaurant Locanda Verde helmed by chef Andrew Carmellini, and for its beautiful decor. From its red brick, glass and wrought-iron facade, to its classic New York-luxe interiors with touches of wood, brass, leather and Italian Carrara marble.

Clint Eastwood: Mission Ranch Inn, California, USA

In 1986, Clint Eastwood was elected to be Mayor of a small beach city in California, Carmel-by-the-Sea. That same year, he bought a historical 160-acre ranch to rescue the property from its fate as a condominium development. Instead, he restored it to its 1840s glory—with the help of talented craftsmen who replicated moldings, doorframes and hardware to match the style of the original buildings.

Today, Misson Ranch is a charming inn with 31 guest rooms across 10 buildings. It boasts a restaurant with a large deck overlooking the ranch, a piano bar, a tennis academy and beautiful views of Carmel River Beach and the Pacific Ocean.
