With film festivals, art auctions and MMA fights, here are some fun activities to do this month

It honestly feels like February passed by in a blur and somehow, we are ready to fly into March this week. 

This month is an exciting one with International Women’s Day falling on March 8, and the March school holidays happening between March 12 and March 20. 

But fret not if you have no clue on which activities to try as we have a list of all the galas, performances, auctions, plays and more that are sure to keep you (and your Tatlings) occupied.

1. Valentino Rendezvous

What: In honour of the Valentino Rendez-Vous Spring/Summer 2022 collection, Maison Valentino has collaborated with French bistro, Merci Marcel to bring the spirit of Rendez-Vous from the streets of Paris all the way to Singapore.

Guests can enjoy a special Valentino experience at the café as well as indulge in a unique Valentino menu that was curated specially for the occasion.

2. March On: Little Steps to Big Dreams

What: March On is back and the annual children-centric festival this year tackles the question of how a child’s environment impacts their learning and growth.

This year’s festival, titled I Have Something to Say, explores the topic of bullying. The performance uses music, movement and multimedia to invite children to build empathy and gives children and adults a common language to speak honestly about bullying.

3. Textures: The Great Escape

What: Textures 2022 is back to celebrate Singapore’s literature and its diversity by bringing literary arts to the heartlands and engaging our local communities.  

Themed The Great Escape, visitors will be able to immerse themselves in local literature by checking out Festival Pavillions at various neighbourhoods across the Northeastern parts of Singapore.

4. A Tapestry of Sacred Music

What: In this edition of A Tapestry of Sacred Music, the Esplanade brings you a rich diversity of musical offerings that focus on the fundamental manifestations of music, drums and voices. This year, guests will be treated to a plethora of overseas artists as well as local ones during the show. 

When: March 25 to March 27

5. The Choose Your Future AR Effect

What: In an attempt to help the public learn about the triple planetary threats of pollution and waste, nature and biodiversity loss and climate change, the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative, in collaboration with Meshminds, a team of young Singaporean developers and designers, have created an AR filter called Choose Your Future. 

Use this filter to make a pledge to protect our planet for future generations and spread the word for the cause.

6. Singapore Ballet Gala

What: The Singapore Ballet Gala will be holding its inaugural performance this March with a performance that is meant to reflect the company’s identity. 

The performance will include work created by Timothy Rushton’s Evening Voices, a ballet that was created by Singaporean Choreographer Choo-San Goh, In the Glow of the Night, and an internationally recognised work, George Balanchine’s Theme and Variations.

7. Limitless' Art Charity Auction

What: Limitless is an organisation that aims at putting an end to the powerlessness caused by poverty, mental illness and social inequality. This month, Limitless will be hosting a virtual art charity auction to spread mental health awareness and to collect funds for youths at risk.

For this auction, Limitless will be working with individuals from the Mouth Foot Painting Association (MFPA) to sell artworks. MFPA is an international, for-profit association wholly owned and run by disabled artists to help meet their financial needs.

8. Apa Khabair? – Peranakan Museum in the Making

What: Apa Khabair? – Peranakan Museum in the Making is a pop-up exhibition that will be held at the Asian Civilisations Museum and that will represent the museum’s commitment to working with our diverse Peranakan communities to broaden the public’s understanding of the vibrant culture.

Through the gallery, visitors will be able to discover the worlds of our Peranakan community and take a walk down memory lane with a historical timeline that will begin with the Tao Nan School building and will track its journey over the years as it becomes the Peranakan Museum.

9. Oddsocks by Five Stones Theatre

What: This month, Five Stones Theatre has a show specially for the kiddos with Oddsocks, an empowering theatre show about the beauty of differences.

The show, which caters to kids ages three to 10 as well as those with special needs, will be presented interactively and in a fun way.

With a little magic, a dash of humour and a lot of socks, it explores what it means to be the odd one out in a world of sameness and why differences should be celebrated and not shunned.

10. Majulah Live x It's A Rap

What: Featuring Singapore’s biggest and most extensive showcase of top headlining musicians, comedians and independent artists, Majulah Live x It’s A Rap is a two-hour show filled with music and laughter, is set to be one to remember.

The show will feature 13 local talents comprising Rriley, Jon Chua JX, Fariz Jabba, Yung Raja and more and will be hosted by comedians Fakkah Fuzz, Jacky Ng and Qamarul Haziq so book your tickets now.

11. The National Heritage Board's Battle for Singapore 2022

What: To mark the 80th anniversary of the Fall of Singapore, the National Heritage Board (NHB) will be partnering with Museum Roundtable members, heritage experts, academics and interest groups to organise Battle for Singapore 2022.

Battle for Singapore 2022 is a series of guided tours and programmes that feature stories and places related to Singapore’s experience during the Second World War (WWII).

Members of the public are invited to participate in a series of WWII-related activities during this event and will be taken on special curated and limited-run tours of WWII sites, the newly-revamped Changi Chapel & Museum and Reflections at Bukit Chandu. There will also be WWII-themed talks and online activities as well as exclusive merchandise.

12. Clothing the Pandemic: A Virtual Exhibition of Covid-19 Face Masks from Around the World.

What: This month, the Asian Civilisations Museum (ACM) will be unveiling an exquisite selection of masks at its virtual exhibition, Clothing the Pandemic: A Virtual Exhibition of Covid-19 Face Masks from Around the World.

The exhibition will feature over 100 masks that have been curated into six major themes and will allow visitors to experience face masks in unexpected ways.

13. The Snow Gala 2022

What: In honour of International Women’s Day, mark your calendars for the annual Snow (Say No to the Oppression of Women) gala. The gala, organised by United Women Singapore, typically sees Singapore’s passionate and socially conscious entrepreneurs, philanthropists and members of society coming together for an evening of glamour and goodwill. 

This year, the gala will take place alongside the organisation’s Gender Equality Impact Awards (GEIA) which aim to recognise organisations, men, women, and youth in Singapore who have championed initiatives to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women in the workplace or community.

14. Aussie Film Festival

What: Presented in tandem with Harmony Week in Australia to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, The Australian High Commission Singapore presents the Aussie Film Festival which aims at reflecting Australia’s rich cultural diversity.

The festival will feature four contemporary films, namely High Ground directed by Stephen Johnson, Rhapsody of Love, and Get a Life Alright! directed by Joy Hopwood, and The Drover’s Wife The Legend of Molly Johnson directed by Leah Purcell.

There will be two screenings for each film during the festival period so make sure you book your tickets as soon as you can when they go on sale on February 28.

15. Baroque House Bourbon Tasting Private Dinner

What: Delve into the history of Rowell Road at the rejuvenated Baroque House, a 102-year-old conservation shophouse. Designed to preserve its incredible heritage, the space reveals its secrets progressively through your journey.

While owner Sonia Ong has curated an array of artistic experiences, we recommend the bourbon tasting private dinner, where you can indulge in a three-course omakase (catering to all dietary requirements) and a tasting of three bourbons, including Wild Turkey Rare Breed and Maker’s Mark 46.

16. WWF Singapore's Ar-mazing Tiger Trail 2022

What: If you have kids or would just like an opportunity to get some good Instagram photos in, this one is for you. The World Wide Fund for Nature Singapore (WWF Singapore) will be launching an island-wide trail that showcases 33 life-sized tiger art sculptures in a bid to raise awareness for the conservatorship of these creatures. 

The trail aims at inspiring Singaporeans and communities around the region to learn more about how individual actions contribute to biological diversity.

It certainly beats the long trip to see the tigers at the Singapore Zoo in Mandai.

17. HSBC Women’s World Championship

What: The HSBC Women’s World Championship will be returning once again to feature some of the brightest talents in the game this march. The 2022 edition of Asia’s Major is set to feature nine of the top ten ranked players in the world and promises an exciting set of matches.

18. One Championship's One X show

What: With 18 fights in one night, One Championship’s tenth-anniversary show, One X, is one to look out for. The show is particularly notable because it will feature reigning One Women’s Atomweight World Champion and Singapore’s MMA queen Angela "Unstoppable" Lee, as well as One Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix Champion and number one ranked contender Stamp Fairtex.

The show will also see MMA stars such as Adriano Moraes, Yuya Wakamatsu, Demetrious Johnson, Nong-O Gaiyanghadao, Rodtang Jitmuangnon and Alaverdi Ramazanov.
