We list down some of the hottest new shows out there that you can watch on HBO Go

We grew up watching Sex and the CityThe Sopranos, and Entourage, to name a few of the iconic series that premiered on HBO. And with the rise of digital streaming, we were able to binge-watch some of its later series like Game of ThronesGirls, and His Dark Materials. While we are at the comfort of our homes due to the COVID-19 restrictions, we made up a list of seven new series that you should check out on HBO Go here in Asia. Ranging from action to drama, each member of the household would surely have a show suitable for them.

1. On The Job

The phenomenal hit film of Erik Matti in 2013 gets a serial treatment with HBO Asia Originals. Revisit the events of the original film in the first two episodes of the six-part miniseries and find out the succeeding events as well as its local connection to a fictional town in the following episodes. The film cut version of the remaining four episodes premiered at the Venice International Film Festival, titled On The Job: Missing 8. The riveting performance of its lead actor John Arcilla earned him the coveted Volpi Cup at the said festival.

2. Scenes from a Marriage

The critically acclaimed 1973 Swedish television miniseries of Ingmar Bergman has been adapted by Hagai Levi for HBO. The film of the same title, Scenes from a Marriage, also gets a serial treatment on HBO Go with five full-length episodes one can watch every week starting September 12. Starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain, the limited series focuses on the struggles of an affluent American married couple who just renewed their marriage contract after their 10th anniversary.

3. Superman & Lois

This American superhero drama has been produced by The CW as part of its DC Arrowverse. It focuses on Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane who returned to Smallville with their teenage sons Jonathan and Jordan. Premiered on February 2021, HBO Go is redistributing the series on its platform as well as other DC films and series. Delving deeper into how the world's greatest superhero balances his life between his family and duty and how he and Lois Lane try to make a normal childhood for their kids are just two of the endearing plot themes the new show is trying to unravel.

4. Mare of Easttown

This American crime drama limited series created by Brad Ingelsby for HBO consists of seven episodes of riveting and compelling storytelling. Befittingly, Mare of Easttown received much critical acclaim after it concluded last May 30 and won four Emmy awards out of 16 nominations. Academy Award winner Kate Winslet won the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Anthology Series or Movie award for her role in this show, the titular character Mare Sheehan, a police detective. The series follows Mare unravel the mystery behind the recent murder of a teenage mother while also trying to keep her life afloat.

5. The White Lotus

This American satirical comedy-drama of Mike White follows the lives of the staff and guests of a tropical resort in Hawaii. It shows a week in the life of vacationers in this idyllic beach setting, contrasted with the complexities in the dynamics of the characters among themselves. It stars Murray Bartlett as the manager of the White Lotus resort and features a powerful ensemble cast. The show has just been renewed for another season.

6. Doom Patrol

This American superhero series developed by Jeremy Carver is also part of the DC Universe and focuses on the members of the Doom Patrol, the unlikely heroes who received their powers through tragic circumstances. They are treated by the Chief, a medical doctor who gave them shelter with his mansion, and who once in his life formed a team also called by the same name. This already has two seasons and has an upcoming third season to premiere on September 23.

7. Trinity of Shadows

Another production of HBO Asia Originals is the Taiwan series Trinity of Shadows. Starring award-winning actors Kaiser Chung, Sandrine Pinna, and Kuan-Ting Liu, the noir series revolves around a murder investigation similar to cold case from about three years ago. Produced by David Tang and directed by Bo-Hao Hong, the series is divided into 15 one-hour episodes.
