1. Titanic

It's been over twenty years since Titanic was first released in 1997. Yet, Winslet's performance in the Golden-Globe winning film will constantly be remembered. Alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Winslet headlined the movie as Rose, whose epic love story with Jack (DiCaprio) tantalised a generation. Who can ever forget the iconic scene when Rose posed nude while wearing the opulent Heart of the Ocean necklace?

2. The Reader

In 2008, Kate Winslet starred in the romantic drama, The Reader. Much like Titanic, its story revolves around a doomed romance, yet its premise remains as intriguing as you can imagine. Winslet plays the role of an illiterate woman, Hanna, who is charged for a crime she has falsely admitted to it. The film, which is shown through the perspective of her leading man, Michael (David Kross) recounts the tragedy of their affair and of Hanna's life in and after prison.

3. Revolutionary Road

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio reunite in Revolutionary Road, a 2008 romantic drama by Sam Mendes. For her performance, Winslet won a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama.

In the film, Winslet and DiCaprio find themselves reprising the roles of the married couple, Frank and April. Though they both have dreams of living a grander life, they find themselves trapped in suburban Connecticut. Tragedy strikes through the multiple challenges they find themselves in, be it in affairs and abortion. A devastating look into the modern-day family unit, Revolutionary Road gives viewers a chance to see all the drama behind the tedium of life.

4. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Though Winslet is often applauded for her roles in dramatic movies, her appearance in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind has been one of many people's favourites. She stars alongside Jim Carrey as Carrey's on-screen girlfriend, Clementine. Throughout the movie, both she and Joe (Carrey) do their best to forget the other—literally trying to erase their memories of each other—but somehow find their way back together again.

5. The Holiday

A star-studded Christmas production to remember, The Holiday sees two women with problems in love. Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz are described as "the same woman, only 6,000 miles apart". Together, they decide to switch houses—the English Iris (Winslet) moves to Los Angeles to stay at Amanda's (Diaz) California home, and Amanda moves to London to do the same—and end up with a most memorable holiday to remember.

6. Contagion

Though Kate Winslet isn't necessarily the lead actress in the film Contagion, her role in the film is as relevant today (perhaps even more so) as it was ten years ago (in 2011 when it was first released). While a pandemic may have been unthinkable then, it is our reality now and Contagion is a dramatised narrative of some very familiar themes. Headlined by A-listers, Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Damon, and Jude Law, this is one science-fiction movie that might now be considered current events.

7. Sense and Sensibility

Another from Winslet's movies from the 90s, Sense and Sensibility is a movie inspired by Jane Austen's book of the same name. Winslet looks perfect for the role of Marianne Dashwood, what with her regal features and British accent. The movie, filmed across the verdure of Britain, is a nice throwback to Winslet's earlier, yet equally magnetic, performances.
