A new K-series is dropping this Christmas Eve! Headlined by Gong Yoo, Netflix's 'The Silent Sea' is unquestionably out of this world
A new Korean thriller is set to captivate our minds and imaginations this Christmas. The Silent Sea is a new Netflix thriller based on a futuristic adventure in space. The year is 2075 and humans have depleted the natural resources on earth. On a mission to save the planet, an elite team of researchers are sent to an abandoned research base on the moon. Song Jian (Bae Doona) is the astrobiologist who explores this uncharted territory and begins to piece together the events that took hold on the research base. Through mysterious predicaments and unforeseen events, the Korean team keeps audiences on the edge of their seat through an intense space thriller set to premiere worldwide on December 24.

Based on Choi Hang-yong's short film of the same name, The Silent Sea has been a decade in the making. “I loved the spectacular ideas behind the story. I wanted to be involved in creating a sci-fi series that is uniquely Korean,” Jung said. Joining Jung's team are award-winning writer Park Eun-kyo and a fantastic cast including Bae Doona, Lee Joon, and Gong Yoo.

After all the excitement from Squid Game, fans all over the world are thirsty for more K-series. This isn't merely a win for Netflix, but a win for the Hallyu wave as well. Hits such as Hometown Cha Cha Cha, Your Name, and of course Netflix's most-watched series, Squid Game, have proven that there's no slowing down on South Korea's TV (or rather, Netflix) takeover. This could possibly explain the streaming giant's bold choice of release date. Perhaps they're anticipating families to enjoy some quality production on Christmas Eve, when everyone gets to gather around the TV and stream The Silent Sea.
