A host of creative industry heavyweights will be fronting campaign efforts for this year’s event. Aaron Kwok, known for being one of the “Four Heavenly Kings” of Canto-pop, Hong Kong pop music, has been appointed the festival’s ambassador for the fourth time. Kwok will join forces with Hong Kong photographer and visual artist Wing Shya to create a series of photographs to promote the festival.

“The last two years have been challenging for everyone because of the Covid-19 pandemic, not least for those who work in the film industry,” says Kwok in a press statement. “It is important to stay positive and, with productions resuming gradually, I am seeing signs of a recovery.”

Local graphic designer Frank Chan, who is best known for his avian-inspired motifs, will be creating the HKIFF campaign’s key visuals. He takes inspiration from the Eurasian tree sparrow, frequently seen in urban areas across East Asia.

“Sparrows are sprightly and charming, and they can be found in Hong Kong throughout the year,” Chan says. “They are just like us Hongkongers, busily flying around, from day to night, striving for a better life and reaching out for our dreams.”

Stay tuned for the line-up, to be announced in July.
