Most creators of anime, a form of Japanese animation, pursue mature themes and topics yet most of these shows are marketed towards children. However, by now, even grown adults have come to develop a deeper appreciation for certain shows not only for the epic fight scenes but for major plot twists, well-written narratives, and gut-wrenching scenes. I've come to learn this after asking for recommendations from friends who are quite huge anime fans.

1. Haikyuu
Haikyuu, stylised as Haikyuu!!, is originally a comedy manga series. Haruichi Furudate, the writer and illustrator of the show, wanted to tell the story of Shoyo Hinata, who’s called “the small giant”. The show follows Hinata who aspires to be a professional volleyball player.
This coming-of-age tale’s premise might seem all too simple, but once you go through the episodes, you’ll be left reaching for a box of tissues as it teaches you about loss, victory, and everything else that comes with the sport.
