As the end of the first season gave viewers a breather from the intricate plot, season two of Alchemy of Souls is set to feed loyal viewers with answers to the hints that were left in season one. As we gear up for season two, here is everything you need to know about the anticipated release.

1. Jung So-min (Mu-deok/Nak-su) will not be returning

So it is confirmed: season one’s female lead, Jung So-min, will not be reprising her role. Instead, it will be South Korean rising actress and model Go Yoon-Jung who will be playing the role of Nak-su.

Throughout the first season, Jung stole the hearts of many with her portrayal of Nak-su/Mu-deok, a shadow assassin who had shifted her soul into a maid’s body. Jung’s departure from season two saw many of her fans expressing their opinions online. Despite that, many others are praising newcomer Go for her own unique take on Nak-su in the teasers.

2. Chaos continues to spread in Daeho

With Jang-uk’s death in season one, viewers are eager to know what will happen in season two. Jang-uk (reborn with the ice stone) and Nak-su now meet face to face three years after catastrophe hit Daeho.

The story does not stop there, however, as a new story following the mages unfolds. Jang-uk is now a merciless hunter of soul-shifters. The new season will also address Cho-yeon’s quest for revenge on her father’s murderer, Nak-su’s return, and Mu-deok’s past.

3. Majority of the main cast will reprise their roles

Apart from the main leads, the supporting cast of season one put on an equally enthralling performance. Although Jung So-min won’t be making her return, fans can look forward to a majority of supporting cast members returning for Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow

Hwang Min-hyun will return as Seo-yul, Shin Seung-ho as Go Won, Yoo Joon-sang as Park Jin, Oh Na-ra as Kim Do-ju, and Arin as Jin Cho-yeon. Arin has also teased the character development of Cho-yeon: “For season two, you should wait and see how Cho-yeon will change in the drama. I am waiting too. Maybe, we will see a more mature Cho-yeon.”

4. There will be a deeper romance between the two leads

Lee Jae-wook (Jang-uk) and Go Yoon-jung’s (Nak-su) on-screen chemistry have already been noted by netizens after the release of new production stills on Instagram. The title of season two, “Light and Shadow”, pays homage to the two main leads. Jang Uk, which means 'rising sun', and Cho Yeong (Nak-su’s real name), which means 'dark spirit', interact steadily with each other throughout the drama. With attention already on their chemistry, we can't wait to see how their connection plays out in season two.
