本屆最受矚目影片《沙丘》獲最佳音效、最佳原創配樂、最佳剪輯、最佳美術設計、最佳視覺效果、最佳攝影等6大獎、原本強勢入圍12項大獎的《犬山記》則是拿下了最佳導演獎；而村上春樹小說改編、濱口竜介所執導的《在車上》入圍奧斯卡4獎，更榮獲本屆最佳國際影片，是繼導演瀧田洋二郎執導的「送行者」後，日本電影睽違13年再度獲得此獎項。

本屆最佳導演則由享譽國際的導演珍康萍（Jane Campion）憑Netflix《犬山記》獲得，她也是奧斯卡首位入圍兩次奧斯卡的女性導演，《犬山記》是珍康萍睽違12年的新作，由英國影星班奈狄克康柏拜區（Benedict Cumberbatch）飾演霸氣而壓抑的西部牛仔。
珍康萍是國際知名的紐西蘭裔導演之一，較為觀眾熟知的作品是1993年的《鋼琴師和她的情人》，此片也使她榮獲奧斯卡最佳導演提名，在國際間贏得了超過30項大獎。珍康萍的電影圍繞在講述女性弱勢、女性在父權下所呈現的壓抑行徑、或大膽探討女性情慾，她也為在影視產業奮鬥的女性發聲。
