What is art and how do you collect it? This simple question sparked the creation of this edition of Tatler Table in collaboration with UBS
Held at Miaja Gallery, the dinner brought together over a dozen art enthusiasts within our Tatler community to have a light-hearted discussion on why they collect art as well as how they do it.
With the current exhibition of French-Vietnamese artist Hom Nguyen as a backdrop to our intimate dinner, we began with a fun pop-quiz with guests using paddles to answer the questions we threw their way. This was followed by a sparkling conversation on art—designer-gallerist Isabelle Miaja shared her democratic collecting philosophy and Singapore Tatler art correspondent Sybil Lau talked about growing up surrounded by Chinese art and how this shaped her inclination to collecting this genre. Executive Director of UBS Jan Boes also shed light on why the bank truly believes in investing in the industry; they support initiatives such as Art Basel as well as walk the talk when it comes to collecting. “We have a lot of art pieces and not enough walls or offices to put them in,” he shared during his welcome speech.

Apart from the lively conversation, guests also enjoyed the culinary artistry of chef Tim Meijers, who presented completely new dishes that evening including an Instagrammable galaxy donut that looked like an abstract art piece in itself.
