Catch a glimpse of Spanish life through the lens—or perhaps paintbrushes—of visual artist and painter, Phyllis Zaballero
Though she was born in Cavite, Phyllis Zaballero grew up influenced by life in Europe and the United States. Having spent her formative years there, Zaballero understands culture and diaspora better than others. After returning to the Philippines, Zaballero embarked on a different journey: as a teacher at the University of the Philippines and as a visual artist, recipient of the CCP Thirteen Artists award. Now, Zaballero returns with an exhibit hosted by Instituto Cervantes.

Entitled "Fondly Remembering Spain", Zaballero's exhibition is hosted by Instituto Cervantes at their Intramuros branch and will run from November 10, 2022 to January 22, 2023. On display will be a collection of paintings, including those from private collections and those from the artist herself, most of which were inspired by Zaballero's years spent in Barcelona and around the Iberian Peninsula. Painting her life between 1957 to 1960, Zaballero explores the everyday Spanish culture that most may not be privy to.
Explore Zaballero's works in her usual style of postmodernism, with the spirit of the distinctive avant-garde so well-known during the first half of the 20th century.
“Fondly Remembering Spain" is organized by Instituto Cervantes in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain. For further information, please visit Instituto Cervantes' website, Facebook page or Instagram.
