The who, what, where and when's of the most anticipated fashion event for high society.

If there was an event that could gather the most fashionable of style stalwarts in high society, it would be the annual Tatler Fashion Awards. Unlike previous years, we’ve decided to switch things up a notch this year by moving away from the big bash and instead, hosting an intimate private dinner for 80 of our best-dressed friends. And of course, whether it’s a party celebrating style or not, we do it in style.

We took over Sinfonia Ristorante at the Victoria Concert Hall, which boasted a clean and contemporary Corinthian architectural style that elevated the incredible pops of colours, textures and designs of the outfits worn by our guests. The theme for the evening was #slay, and the guests slayed indeed, with their individual looks. There were far too many that caught our attention; think: flamboyant prints and kimono-style jackets; snazzy dresses, coats and shoes that shimmered and sparkled; and full-on bling-on-pattern-on-pattern-on-bling ensembles. There were some who went all out, purposely getting one-of-a-kind exclusive pieces just for the night such as Fanty Soenardy, our Style Disrupter 2018 recipient, who had flown in a one-of-a-kind Dior leather jacket.

At 8pm, guests were ushered to their seats and our host Yasminne Cheng took to the stage to welcome guests, while Edipresse Media Singapore’s managing director, Corinne Ng thanked the guests for gracing the stylish occasion and shared how there was always a surprise at every Tatler Fashion Awards. Making a grand entrance after that was this year's said surprise, Pangina Heals, fierce queen and beloved co-host of televised competition show, Drag Race Thailand. Wearing a beautifully embroidered gown and exuding an infectious energy, she had guests anticipating her performance that would take place later that evening.

But before that, dinner was served. Guests dug into a delectable roasted octopus dish with watermelon, dill and leek; a comforting pea soup laced with almond and lemongrass; and their mains, of which the beef short ribs garnered the most praise for its flavour and tenderness. Of course, throughout the evening, no one’s tipple was left empty and everyone had their fill of Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial champagne, and Pasqua Pinot Grigio and Sangiovese from Puglia, Italy.

As guests enjoyed the dinner, the evening’s main highlight began—the awarding of this year’s four most notable style stars, who received exquisitely crafted trophies by Lalique, curated anti-aging gift sets from Clé de Peau Beauté and specially designed LG Stylers.

The bubbly Carmen Ow was named Classic Dresser for her consistently elegant and polished fashion choices, while the Style Disrupter accolade went to Fanty, who received the award in a different outfit from the one she arrived in, gracing the stage with a preppy Versace dress.

The Most Stylish Woman was awarded to Yenny Then who credited the two Desmonds in her life: the first, her husband Desmond Neo for quietly being her pillar of support, and Desmond Lim, Singapore Tatler’s fashion director, for his valuable style tips. The last, but by no means least, award of the night was presented to Jeffrey Piak, who was named the Most Stylish Man. He made everyone in the room laugh when he shared that he would often take a longer time than his wife Emily to get dressed because he would be styling her first.

Before guests could recover from the excitement of the awards presentation, it was time for the evening’s high-octane performance, by the ever-glamorous Pangina Heals. Donning a body-fitting sequinned jumpsuit, she worked the floor with a dramatic dance number to Beyonce’s Crazy in Love and amazed guests with her powerful vocals, belting out Big Spender by Shirley Bassey live.

With that, the evening concluded on a high, with desserts served. Guests though didn’t call it a night until much later on, and continued with their conversations, which were lubricated with more flutes of champagne and glasses of wine. And that is how a Thursday should end.
