Here’s what you missed: It was only inevitable that the clean, sculptural lines and bold artistic vision of the properties under The House Collective’s umbrella would one day inspire a dance programme. This summer, the hotel group launched the second edition of Encounters Across Cultures, an art programme curated and produced together with Patsy Lo held across all four of its luxury establishments: The Opposite House in Beijing, The Temple House in Chengdu, The Middle House in Shanghai, and Hong Kong’s The Upper House. The ongoing programme, which began in Shanghai in July, this year explores the relationship between dance and the architecture of each property’s unique design. The action finally came to Hong Kong this month, with art and culture connoisseurs gathering on October 11 at the Sky Lounge for a fireside chat between choreographer Yuh Egami and dancer Hennes Yuen of the Hong Kong Ballet, and André Fu, architect of The Upper House. Each spoke passionately of their craft and discussed the similarities between the two art forms. The collaboration between artists across various cities culminated in an interactive video installation on level six of the hotel, which was on display until November 14 before travelling to The Temple House.
