The co-founder of Hong Kong’s burgeoning creative studio explains why she doesn't dwell on the past

To say Victoria Tang-Owen is taking Hong Kong’s creative scene by storm is a bit of an understatement.

Since welcoming her first child last year and launching creative collaboration studio Thirty30 Creative with her husband, Christopher Owen at the end of 2015—and with an extensive list of clients that include Lane Crawford, MaxMara and Dior Homme to name a few—the duo are fast becoming a force to be reckoned with in the creative industry and on the social circuit.

In our latest edition of the Tatler 10, where we pose ten questions to Hong Kong-based entrepreneurs about their businesses, Victoria tells us why it’s quality over quantity when it comes to picking your team and partners, and why she never dwells on the past:

What does Hong Kong mean to you?

Without a doubt, Hong Kong is home—it’s where I was brought up and returned to start a business and raise a family.

Summarise your business in one sentence.

Thirty30 Creative is a creative collaboration studio servicing clients locally, regionally and globally.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

The name Thirty30 Creative derives from the Confucian idea that when you reach 30, it’s time to stand on your own feet and I’m proud to have launched and built a business with my husband at this time of my life.

What do you love most about running your own business?

I love being responsible for great collaborations with friends who became clients, and clients who became friends.

What advice can you offer budding entrepreneurs?

Pick your partners carefully. It's important to have a wide range of skills in any business so try to work with people or hire talent that offers something you can't bring to the table.

As an entrepreneur, what do you think sets you and your business apart from the competition?

Our team has a very international viewpoint based on our backgrounds. Our skill set is incredibly broad. We shoot fashion campaigns; we create brand identities from scratch, and we inject new life into corporates who are looking to refresh how they communicate with their customers.

Who inspires you and why?

I've always admired the work of the team at French communication agency M/M (Paris), founder and creative director Patrick Li who runs Li Inc. an advertising and graphic design studio based in New York, English fashion and accessories designer Anya Hindmarch and Dutch fashion photography duo Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

Looking back, do you wish you had done anything differently?

I don't have time to look back. I'm focussed on creating a legacy and that requires a commitment to inch forward step-by-step.

What's your end goal?

To position Thirty30 Creative as a recognised creative agency, and a force in the creative and design industry both locally and internationally.

What are your words to live by?

Whenever things go well, I tend to say, “Go, team! High fives!”
