“Hyperenvironment” was the theme of the Design Trust’s annual Ambassadors Ball, which was held at the Kerry Hotel and presented by title sponsor Prada. Internationally renowned architects Rem Koolhaas, OMA’s founding partner-architect, and David Gianotten, OMA’s managing partner-architect, were this year’s creative directors and the guests of honour. The evening kicked off with an intimate cocktail reception which saw guests, including the likes of Hong Kong’s chief executive Carrie Lam, Victor Lo and Rosanna Wong, admiring the artwork that was up for auction. Notable lots included works by Daido Moriyama, Joan Miró and luxurious furniture from Poliform.
Following the cocktail reception, guests made their way into the ballroom which had been transformed into a neon green and pink wonderland, which perfectly embodied the evening’s theme. High points from the dinner included the live auction, with Philips’ Jonathan Crockett acting as auctioneer for the evening. His lively and humorous banter with international news correspondent James Chau, who was the host for the evening, proved to be quite entertaining—and lucrative, as over HK$10.5million was raised on the night, a new record for the Design Trust. After dinner, guests made their way downstairs for the after party, where they were treated to an electrifying performance by DJ Mimi Xu, Benedict Ku, Diana d'Arenberg and Edipresse Media Asia’s Sean Fitzpatrick.
