After the windswept waves brought by typhoon Kompasu finally died down, Tatler threw a party for October cover star Wesley Ng, his closest friends, and fellow figures from the Hong Kong in-crowd, who gathered at the publication’s newest event space: a lavish, 24-metre catamaran (affectionately known as the TatCat) on October 16.

When? October 16, 2021

Where? The Tatler Catamaran

Who? Wesley Ng, André Fu, Eric Fok, Edwin Pun, Eddy Tang, Danny Yeung, Elaine Kwok, Cocoa Zhou

Here’s what you missed: Fifty guests, including Ng’s long-time friends Jacqueline Chow, André Fu and Edwin Pun, came out to support the co-founder of tech accessories brand Casetify for a day out atop the pristine waters of Repulse Bay. Spinning decks on deck, DJs Arthur Bray and Rie Kiriiaka brought the party to life with a dose of electric soul and R’n’B.

In scenes evocative of a summer on the French riviera, the sun beat down, the waters sparkled and the fizz flowed in abundance. Girl-about-town Cocoa Zhou arrived with her stylish squad, including singer and actress Adrienne Lau, who had just returned to Hong Kong from the Venice Film Festival, where her movie, The Card Counter, had just premiered. Between selfies and on-board massages, the gang was pampered from head to toe in a day of much-needed rest and relaxation.

“The catamaran was pure perfection – sophisticated and glamorous, but also utterly relaxed,” said Christie’s Elaine Kwok, who soaked up the sun with her colleague, Cristian Albu. “We were spoilt with ice-cold champagne and amazing weather. The joy of being out on the water reminded us of just how lucky we are to be in Hong Kong,”

The guestlist was as glittering as the ocean: Pierre-Ettore Millereau, general manager of Chopard, and his wife Iva hopped over from their home nearby, and Eddy Tang, co-owner of EC Healthcare, made the most of the sumptuous BBQ spread laid on by The Upper House, with extra treats from Nomad Caviar.

Multiple toasts were made to Ng, who was still relishing his cover. “It was great to get together to celebrate the new issue. Life is about celebrating all wins—big and small—and what makes it even more special is sharing it with the people you care about,” he said.

A breath-takingly fiery sunset delivered the perfect finale to a day of celebration. Exhausted from swimming, smiling and shimmying, the salty seafarers returned to dry land with that post-holiday glow, despite never having left Hong Kong.
