Choosing a gift for the man who has everything must be quite the challenge; nevertheless, Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew seemed more than pleased to simply spend time with family, friends and loved ones at his birthday party.
The founder of Country Heights Holdings Bhd and The Mines Resort Bhd graciously invited his good friend Tan Sri Shamsuddin Abdul Kadir to partake of the joint birthday celebration; both birthday 'boys' respectively turn 64 and 88 years old this year.
The garden-themed party unfolded at the Mines Resort & Golf Club's waterfront lawn — literally a breath of fresh air in terms of venue. Serving as the master of ceremonies, Bintang Lee kept the evening's programme on track, while Alif Nasir, popularly known as the ‘Kenny G of Malaysia,’ dazzled the audience on his soprano saxophone.
Not one or two, but three birthday cakes were slowly and carefully carried onto stage for the cake cutting ceremony. A surprise display of pyrotechnics lit up the evening sky shortly after. As a follow up to the friendship golf tournament that had taken place earlier that day, prizes in 4 categories — Ladies Champion, Second Runner Up, Runner Up and Champion — were bestowed upon the deserving winners.
Reflecting on connectivity and chance, Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew announced, “In this world there are some 7 billion people. Because of this, we must appreciate the significance of us being here today at this beautiful garden party — it could have been others."
