It was a splendid evening at the Tower Ballroom of the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore as the Jazz Association (Singapore) held its gala benefit fundraiser on April 5. Themed "Some Enchanted Evening", the evening saw an exciting line-up, with entertaining performances by local veteran jazz singer Alemay Fernandaz, American jazz vocalist Kenny Washington, as well as Singapore’s very own King of Swing, Jeremy Monteiro, who conducted the Jazz Association Singapore Orchestra. Present at the event were also Singapore's Ambassador-at-Large, Professor Tommy Koh, who gave a tickling speech and proposed a toast in hopes of “making Singapore the jazz capital of Asia", and his wife, who are both avid enthusiasts of the music genre.
In a heartwarming moment, Singapore Tatler Ball 2018 Society Couple of the Year, Adrian and Susan Peh, together with their children, paid tribute to the family's patriarch, Mark Leong, with a jazz number during the special song dedication segment. That evening, the gala dinner raised more than $720,000 for the association to propel its mission in furthering the jazz scene and improving its accessibility to society in Singapore.
