Every year on International Women’s Day (IWD), the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO) pays tribute to outstanding women in Singapore, recognising their contributions. This year was no different with eight exceptional women inducted into the Singapore Women’s Hall of Fame (SWHF) at the SCWO IWD gala dinner in March, at The St Regis Singapore. They included the late Liew Yuen Sien and Evelyn Norris, the former principals of Nanyang Girls’ School and Raffles Girls’ School, respectively; former athlete Glory Barnabas; and Gan Siow Huang, the highest-ranking woman in the Singapore Armed Forces. To date, 160 women have been honoured since SWHF was introduced by SCWO in 2014. At the event, the organisation also launched the Seeds of Change fund to support women’s organisations and their women’s development programmes.
