“I don’t have a kampung but growing up we used to play these songs when we celebrated Raya at my grandparents' place in Section 16, Petaling Jaya. The night before Raya we would have these songs on repeat whilst preparing the table, hanging Raya cards around the pool, and playing bunga api. Morning of Raya, we will usually receive a lot of children from the orphanages nearby and we’d play bunga api with them too with these songs in the background. My favourite is 'Suara Takbir'. I’d play it after morning prayers as we wait for our guests to arrive. It’s melancholic but beautiful at the same time.”
