Here are some ways to kick off an inspiring tête-à-tête in this gorgeous space Members’ club 1880 officially opened its doors late last year, and since founder Marc Nicholson was driven by a desire to inspire conversations that impact society in a positive way, it’s only natural that this 22,000 sq ft space on the third floor of The Robertson Quay Project development is full of beautifully designed pockets that are perfect for that scintillating heart-to-heart. Here are some of our favourite spots:

1.  Teapot Bar

1880’s interiors are conceptualised by British designer Timothy Oulton, and there is a distinct touch of English whimsy in this quirky bar that’s studded with 360 vintage teapots. Located in the Members’ Lounge, the teapots’ lids haven’t been sealed shut, and we think that’s a perfect mechanism for tucking away some secret notes for your fellow members. What’s more old-school than exchanging ideas via (teapot) post?

2. The Gallery

There is a lovely array of art in 1880, which plans to host changing exhibitions and on-site installations that you can discuss later with fellow members within the club’s chic, comfy confines. 1880 will be working with emerging and established artists, and will also host performance art events, talks and workshops.

3. The Reception

This epic reception desk also has the feel of a piece of art. Made of a 1.5-tonne piece of natural rose quartz crystal from Madagascar, it’s reportedly millions of years old. While you’re lingering at the reception to find out more about upcoming events, feel free to touch the crystal—according to folklore, rose quartz helps to attract and retain love, and mend broken hearts.

4. The Kaleidoscope

In the meantime, there is a real sense of drama when you enter the club via this escalator, thanks to the reflective surfaces of the installation-like entryway, named The Kaleidoscope. Inspired by the story of Alice stepping through the looking glass, gliding through this space feels like travelling through a diamond and is sure to inspire chit-chat that’s far from mundane.

Step out onto the terrace to enjoy this whimsical seating area shaped like a bird’s nest. It’s particularly great for cocktails and conversation in the evenings, when you can catch a glimpse of Robertson Quay all lit up.

6. Phone booths

On the chance that you simply can’t wait to connect with someone who isn’t in the club, simply step into one of these capsule-shaped phone booths—clad with Spitfire aluminium on the outside and padded with delicate quilted silk on the inside, these are spaces designed to make conversing a delightful experience. Remember to bring your own phone though.

7. Recovery Room

We are obsessed with the broad leather sofas here, which provide such deliciously tactile pleasure. Hang out here for a relaxing catch-up after getting massages, manicures or a wet shave at Mei, 1880’s wellness space.
