Priya Anand, 23

The London School of Economics graduate is the daughter of Gopal Chand Anand, CEO of dairy wholesaler Anbros Industries. As a strategic consultant, she advises MNCs on cost optimisation and market strategies.

The most important lesson that my parents have taught me
To be kind and cognizant of the challenges faced by others.

Assumptions about me
Most people assume that I have it easier in life when in reality, I face a different type of challenge: personal failure is less acceptable as I have been given a head start in life. My response to that is: there is nothing wrong with failure, it is about learning from it and coming back stronger.

Favourite family tradition
Regardless of how busy we are, my family makes the effort to cook together every Sunday. We are a family that bonds over food.

What traits have I inherited from either of my parents?
My father's positivity and my mother's practicality. One must dream big and put in the work in order to succeed.

Lust list
For me, lusting over an item seems too short-term. I have always been more interested in investments, so potentially my first apartment.

Bill Zhang, 33

One of Bill’s most treasured item is an old RMB1 note signed by Chang Kia-ngau, his great-grandfather, who served as chief executive of the Bank of China from 1912. Carrying on with their family tradition, Bill is a private banker at a Swiss bank.

The most important lesson that my parents have taught me
When I was 10, we were travelling with another family. We stopped for fuel, and the family friends that we were with, went into the service station to get water. When we took off again, my mother told me quietly, if in that future, if that were you, you should offer everyone else water. It was just a passing comment, but it really stuck to me, even at 33. It’s important to be considerate, and something small like that can make such an impact.

Favourite family tradition
I’ve been living away from home for quite some years now, so I look forward to going home to my mother’s Shanghainese wontons. They’re larger than the ones in Singapore, filled with meat, prawns and vegetables in soup.

Traits I inherited from my mother
My mother has always been someone who puts others’ needs ahead of her own. I think that rubbed off a bit on me.

Last thing I bought
I bought my mum a short vacation over the weekend. We were at the Park Hyatt resort and spa in Ningbo, China. I booked the ambassador’s suite for her (I stayed in a normal room), but she thought it was a free upgrade. If she had known that I paid that amount of money for the room, she would not have stepped in.

Lust list
The 9-11 Porsche. I lost my Australian license and haven’t bought a car since. Let’s see how my bonus works out this year.
