Angelina shares her socialite mother Tan Khar Nai’s passion for ballroom dancing. Outside of work, the lawyer travels to savour good food and fine wine with her husband, Desmond Ngiam.

The most important lesson that my parents have taught me
To have resilience and humility, and to always put family first.

Favourite family tradition
No matter how busy we are, we make time for Saturday family dinners together with our spouses

Favourite item that I’ve borrowed from my mu
My mum’s ballroom dancing outfit for my first dance at my wedding. This is special to me because it was my mum who first exposed me to the performing arts and taught me that there are always hours of hard work that have to be put in before every big moment.

Last family vacation
Our last trip together was to Nagoya in winter. Japan is our favourite holiday destination and we try to visit a different city when we can.

Traits I inherited from my parents
My dad’s level-headedness and my mum’s sense of empathy.

Meaghan See, 30

The most important lesson that my parents have taught me
That it's okay to make mistakes but learn from them.

Assumptions about me
Fitness junkie, which is not inaccurate!

Favourite family tradition
Sunday dinners at home.

Lust list
An Oleander setting ring from Midwinter Co., an independent jewellery brand where ten per cent of its profits goes to charities and their diamonds and gemstones are conflict-free.

Favourite item that my parents have handed down to you
A set of heart-shaped diamond earrings and necklace from Piaget.

Rachel Wee, 31

This social media maven (@rachelbambi on Instagram) is the younger daughter of entrepreneurs Jean Yip and Mervin Wee, and sister to Cheryl and Russell—the family behind hairdressing and beauty chain, Jean Yip Group.

The most important lesson that my parents have taught me
They have always taught me to be respectful to others, no matter how successful we are in life.  My parents have an MBA (mop and broom attitude), anyone can do it, even if you are the founder. My dad treats everyone the same way, and goes out of the way to make people feel important.

Assumptions about me;
There’s an assumption that I’m spoilt. My response? When we go on holiday, the children (Cheryl, Russell and I) usually take economy class whilst our parents go on business. Occasionally they surprise us with an upgrade, but they’re not extravagant with us.

Favourite family tradition
Christmas and Chinese New Year have been the two biggest festivities for our family, since we were young. My siblings and I prep the house for these full-day parties while my mother oversees the food.

Traits have I inherited from my parents
Ambition. Seeing my parents work so hard for something they believe in, has always been my inspiration to work hard too. They have had their own set of obstacles, but I have never seen them back down or even think of giving up. I think they have passed their perseverance and drive to me.

Last family vacation
It rarely happens now! Since Cheryl and I joined the family business, whenever our parents are on vacation, Cheryl and I usually stay back to take care of the business. I think the last one that everyone came along was probably Sydney, Australia.
