Fronting the newly revamped March 2014 issue of Singapore Tatler magazine, Rany Moran springs into a world of luxury where ancient wisdom meets contemporary style.

It’s no secret: one thing we love as much as our March revamp issue is a getaway. So while working on our new look – think bumped up fashion, beauty and jewellery & watches sections; redesigned layouts; and new columns on what’s hot, or not – we packed our bags and set off for Indonesia, where we shot multi-faceted glamazon Rany Moran at The Dharmawangsa Jakarta.

From the moment we pulled up to the luxury heritage hotel’s lush premises, we knew lugging over 100kg of suitcases filled with spring/summer 2014 pieces from the likes of Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Dior, Marni and Donna Karan, and photography equipment would be worth it.

Chopard brought the sparkle in the form of 19 high jewellery pieces not unlike the ones seen on the Golden Globes red carpet, which we watched on the television during prep time.

We started shooting right away, and did so from the Presidential Suite all the way to the Bimasena Club, a fitness and wellness centre exclusively available for Dharmawangsa guests, residents and members.

With each stunning shot and setting, we discovered a little bit more about Indonesian culture, what with Moran happily educating us on the history behind the traditional fabric draped over beautiful four-posted beds, handcrafted furniture that decked out every room and common area, or ethnic artworks we came across.

The shoot took two full days, and we ended things on a high with a round of the hotel’s signature chocolate martinis before whiling the rest of the evening away at the Bimasena Spa, Library and Caviar Lounge.

Despite two long days of holding strenuous poses and outfit changes, Rany is all smiles. On posing, which she learned from this shoot: “If it hurts, then it works!”
