Talking fashion with Melissa Sin
The executive director at SKB Shutters Corporation Berhad as well as the founder of The Bag Atelier, Melissa Sin is a creative and adventurous lady who loves to travel.
Through The Bag Atelier, a customised crystals strassed minaudiere label she created out of her passion and love for embellishments and unique arm candies, she is able to express her creativity, giving her the time she needs to work on her passion away from her own professional career.
In the spirit of Generation T, she sits down with us for 10 minutes to share her fashion and styling know-how.
Describe your personal style.
My personal style is always evolving. Fashion is an expression, whether emotional or a phase in life; and that's what is fun about fashion. I love statement looks, courtesy of any one of the following – earrings, a fancy skirt, a jacket or even my hair. Draw focus to one feature and keep everything else simple.
Tell us more about your passion for sparkly accessories.
I love embellishments, beadworks, sequins, and crystals on my clothing, accessories or even my nails. As a child, I remember insisting on having glitter makeup on my face for a pre-school concert. It was hilarious but as you can see, I’ve always loved all the sparkly things!
How do you translate that to The Bag Atelier?
The Bag Atelier is an obsession turned into passion. It celebrates the idea of having your own expression of art or ideas being transformed into handmade strassed pieces. So every piece of sketch-to-strass is unique in its own way.
Dress or jeans?
Dress, definitely! I can wear it anytime, anywhere and unlike jeans, dresses are more versatile.
Fashion items you can't get enough of right now?
Feathers, graffiti jumpers and nude lace pumps
Designer brands you're in love with right now?
Tough one, but I'm so in love with sass and bide and N°21.
If in doubt, wear…
A statement necklace, white Oxford tie at the waist, shorts and you’re ready to go!
Your biggest fashion no-no?
Turtle neck. Never aced it well.
