Where and When? Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA) on December 2

Who? Nancy Lee, Michele Li, Yuda Chan, Carol Murray, Daphne King-Yao

Here’s what you missed: On December 2, Nancy Lee, the organisation’s chairman, took to the stage to thank her peers and predecessors. “We would not be here today without those who walked before us. I would like to honour all past museum chief curators and the past Friends of HKMoA chairmen. Over the years [we have] sponsored museum exhibitions, publications and symposia, and donated works of art. In turn, we have also benefited from the help and support of HKMoA curators and staff, for which we are most grateful,” she said.

After dinner and live performances at the museum’s Australian restaurant, Hue, guests explored exhibitions across multiple floors and cast their eyes over newly donated paintings. Curators were on hand to guide visitors through the galleries, and for one night only, the museum was open until midnight, giving each guest unrivalled access to the displays.

Since the museum reopened in 2019, its collections have grown considerably, thanks to new donations from collectors. “While we don’t know what the next 30 years will bring, we are confident that art and culture will become an even more important part of Hong Kong’s future. It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a whole city to nurture a museum; a museum that truly belongs to the people of Hong Kong,” said Lee.
