It was an evening of classy dance moves and warm generosity at the 11th annual Pink Ball. After welcoming friends, family and supporters to the Grand Hyatt, Ava Kwong, chairman of the Hong Kong Hereditary Breast Cancer Family Registry, spoke of the work carried out by the registry so far but focused mostly on the future, in keeping with the theme of the ball, renaissance, as the registry moves into its second decade. As diners took their seats, guests, including Lynn Hsieh, took a spin around the dance floor accompanied by their professional dance partners and a live band.

A highlight of the ball is always the charity dance performance, and this year was no exception. Guests including Ming Ho-Tang, Louisa Cheng and Catherine Kwai, watched on as Lucy Wang stole the show. A cancer survivor herself, it took a few years to coax her to take centre stage, though she needn’t have worried as her vivacious routine had everyone on their feet with a standing ovation. Generous donations were pledged during the silent auction, with all funds raised on the night going towards providing free genetic screening and consultations for underprivileged families at risk of breast, ovarian and prostate cancer.
