Where?: The Hong Kong Country Club on October 29

Here's what you missed: The Asia Art Archive (AAA) celebrated its 21st anniversary this year, and on October 29 the organisation held its annual fundraising gala at the Hong Kong Country Club. This event also marked an exciting shift in the AAA’s management, with the addition of new executive director Christopher K Ho. As the co-founder and executive director for the past 20 years, Claire Hsu transitions to her new position as board co-chair. Touching speeches were made by AAA co-chairs Jane DeBevoise and Benjamin Cha, and though Hsu was in France at the time of the event, she appeared on screen during a highlight reel showcasing what the organisation was working on next.

This year’s auction featured 48 works by artists including Birdhead, Luis Chan, Elizabeth and Iftikhar Dadi, Simryn Gill, Jeff Koons and Andrew Luk, which were generously donated by artists, individual donors, institutions and galleries from around the world.

Saloni Lodha created the table settings for the gala using Ajrakh block-printed textiles by Indian artisans in support of the designer’s social impact initiative, Connecting For India, and guests were able to take home custom-printed cushions as keepsakes. All the funds raised will go towards building collections on the history of contemporary art in the region, as well as towards keeping the materials free and accessible for research and education.
