The World’s Greenest Cities For Working Out 2021
Covid-19 has changed the way we exercise. From exploring hiking trails, to park workouts, people around the world have shifted their exercise routines amidst gym closures and Covid-19 scares. If you’re wondering which city in the world is best for outdoor, eco-friendly workouts, a recent study by Reebok ranked global cities to find out.
The study, which measured the cities according to residents’ bicycle usage, the city’s sunlight hours, running routes, hiking trails, crime rate, pollution index and search volume of eco-friendly exercise terms, Reebok ranked the top thirty cities in the world for adopting an eco-friendly exercise regime.
Claiming first place in the study is Tokyo, Japan—a city boasting one of the lowest crime rates in the world and over 1,500 running routes. Sydney, Australia came in second with one of the highest number of sunlight hours, 1,833 running routes and 323 hiking trails. London came third with the highest number of running routes in the city—6,743—and the highest number of people searching for eco-friendly exercise terms online.
While Hong Kong did not make it into the top twenty greenest cities for working out, the city is nothing short of outdoor activities, hiking trails and secret islands for us to explore. Hong Kong has over 500 hiking, running and mountain biking trails, according to All Trails.
Covid-19 may have limited us from travelling but on the bright side, it’s given us plenty of time to explore the less-explored parts of our city—and it seems like people around the world have been doing the same.
