Designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978, the Arceau watch is no stranger to the Hermès collection. However, the Arceau Duc Attelé breathes new life into the classic silhouette. Its asymmetrical stirrup lugs and round shape have stood the test of time and now serve as the canvas for the intricate art of watchmaking. Whether in polished titanium or rose gold, the 43mm case of the new reference is a testament to Hermès’s ability to marry its legacy with forward-thinking design.

2. A grand complication

At the heart of the Arceau Duc Attelé lies a grand complication—the central triple-axis tourbillon, a marvel of engineering that defies gravity and ensures impeccable timekeeping. This sophisticated mechanism is accompanied by a minute repeater, creating a symphony of precision that is as captivating to the ear as it is to the eye. Their coexistence in the Arceau Duc Attelé is a first for Hermès and an important step forward in the industry for the brand.

3. A dial that tells more than time

The dial of the Arceau Duc Attelé watch is a universe in itself. A sapphire dome crowns the triple-axis tourbillon, its carriage adorned with interlacing double ‘Hs’—a nod to the union of Émile Hermès and Julie Hollande. The hours and minutes are displayed with dynamic, galloping Arabic numerals, while the power-reserve indicator at six o’clock reminds the wearer of the watch’s autonomy. The hands, shaped like claws, ensure readability while maintaining the timepiece’s overall elegance.

4. The minute repeater

The minute repeater chimes with hammers sculpted in the shape of a horse, striking U-shaped gongs that circle the dial. This design not only pays homage to Hermès’s equestrian roots but also ensures optimal resonance and sound clarity, akin to cathedral chimes. The case is made of polished grade 5 titanium, which enhances the acoustic experience, proving that every aspect of the watch’s design serves both form and function.

5. Horological artistry exposed

Through the sapphire case-back, the manufacture Hermès H1926 movement is on full display. Here, the intricacies of the “horse-drawn carriage-wheel” gear-train cut-outs can be admired alongside the anthracite PVD treatment of the mainplate and bridges. The openworked sapphire-crystal bridge over the striking mechanism allows the sound to resonate while showcasing the hand-finishing of the movement, down to its polished screws and gold chatons.

Each version of the Arceau Duc Attelé, whether in titanium or rose gold, is limited to 24 pieces. Accompanied by a matt anthracite or abyss blue alligator strap, the Arceau Duc Attelé is not just a timepiece but a statement of Hermès’s unrelenting pursuit of perfection.
