Within Vacheron Constantin’s catalogue, the Traditionnelle collection is one that says a lot about the brand’s watchmaking identity. Its design language draws is rooted in the aesthetic codes of 18th-century haute horlogerie, which favours functionality over aesthetics. Proportion, balance and legibility guide the composition of the dial, with a railway minute track, faceted Dauphine hands and applied gold baton markers establishing a framework that lends itself to clarity.
The perpetual calendar holds a particular place within this framework. Introduced by the brand in the late 19th century, the complication demands not only mechanical sophistication but also a carefully controlled visual architecture. In the latest interpretations of the Traditionnelle Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin, that balance is carefully maintained. Housed in a deliberately restrained 36.5mm case, the three new models demonstrate how complexity can be integrated without compromising legibility, proportion or composure.

Building on those key principles, the proportions of the case play a central role in how the watches are experienced on the wrist. Measuring 36.5mm in diameter and 8.43mm in thickness, the case recalls a more classical sense of scale that prioritises comfort and visual harmony over overt presence. More precisely, the inspiration came from the dimensions of Vacheron Constantin’s Reference 43031 from 1983, a perpetual calendar launched at the peak of the Quartz Crisis and noted for contributing to the revival of high watchmaking.
Two of the new references, rendered in 18-karat 5N pink gold and 18-karat white gold respectively, are the first non-gem-set Traditionnelle models to adopt this diameter. A third version, also in white gold, introduces discreet diamond-setting across the bezel, lugs and crown, offering a more precious interpretation without altering the underlying design language.
The stepped case profile, fluted caseback and slender bezel remain faithful to the Traditionnelle codes, framing a silver-toned opaline dial whose layout is governed by symmetry and restraint. The perpetual calendar indications—day, date and month—are arranged across three evenly spaced sub-dials. Their circular forms are echoed by the moon-phase and age-of-the-moon display positioned at six o’clock.

At the heart of all three models is the Manufacture calibre 1120 QP, a movement that has achieved near-cult status among collectors for its combination of complexity and slenderness. Just 4.05mm thick, the self-winding calibre integrates a full perpetual calendar—capable of accounting for leap years and varying month lengths until 2100—alongside a moon-phase display, while maintaining a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. With 276 components arranged within a remarkably compact architecture, the movement reflects Vacheron Constantin’s long-standing expertise in ultra-thin watchmaking, an area the Maison has pursued not as an exercise in record-setting, but as a discipline of balance.
That philosophy extends to the finishing. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the bridges are decorated with Côtes de Genève and hand-bevelled edges, while the circular-grained mainplate—concealed beneath the dial—underscores the Maison’s refusal to distinguish between visible and hidden craftsmanship. The oscillating weight, crafted in 22K gold and open-worked in the form of the Maltese cross, adds visual depth without disrupting the movement’s slender profile. Each watch bears the Hallmark of Geneva, affirming its adherence to the highest standards of Genevan watchmaking.

The white gold version introduces contrast through pink gold hands and markers, paired with a lighter blue moon phase and a light brown alligator strap. In the diamond-set model, the white gold case comes with white gold hands and hour markers, allowing the restrained sparkle of the stones to enhance, rather than dominate, the watch’s classical lines.
