Seiko’s Prospex diver’s collection, the choice of professional and recreational divers all over the world, releases the Caliber 6R54 with new and exciting functions

Through the years, Seiko has successfully pushed back the boundaries of where sports and divers’ watches can go and be used, but always taking into consideration the safety and reliability of every product. Today, the brand introduces a new movement in its long-trusted 6R family. Dubbed the Caliber 6R54, the timepiece has a GMT function, a power reserve extended to a full 72 hours and, additionally, a striking piece to wear and admire.

The Caliber 6R54 is presented in three varying interpretations of the Prospex. For starters, the GMT hand can be set independently in one-hour increments without interrupting the time-of-day hands; this feature allows the wearer to see at one glance the time in another time zone. For free divers, the Caliber 6R54 is a great companion as all three watches can be plunged into 200-metre-deep water. Its hands also come in Lumibrite, a luminous paint that absorbs the light energy of the sun and lighting apparatus in a short time and stores it to emit light in dark places. For instance, a timepiece exposed to a source of more than 500 lux for 20 minutes can emit light for as long as three to five hours.

The timepiece also caters to collectors who are not necessarily into sports. The Caliber 6R54 features a scratch-resistant and unidirectional ceramic bezel with a luminous pip that fits any style. Every product is tucked in between a three-link stainless steel bracelet with a slim profile that allows it to sit on the wrist comfortably.

The new Prospex addition comes in three different colours–green, black and the limited-edition ice-blue dial that celebrates the 110th anniversary of Seiko, which captures the power of the polar glaciers that shape the landscapes and seascapes of the Arctic and Antarctic.

The ice-blue dial shares the same case and bracelet with two other Prospex timepieces, but is distinguished by an additional strap that is made entirely of recycled plastic bottles. It is also a part of the Save the Ocean series, advocating the Seiko Prospex mission to contribute to a greater understanding of the world’s oceans and their preservation.

The project has so far supported various marine conservation initiatives such as reducing marine debris with the help of divers all around the world through the PADI Marine Debris Program. PADI is the world’s largest ocean exploration and diver organisation, with a global network of more than 6,600 dive centres and resorts and over 128,000 professional members worldwide.

Through this undertaking, Seiko was also able to support an underwater archaeology project that explores several historical sites with the aim of protecting its cultural heritage for future generations. One of the brand’s many accomplishments is its excavation project off the Greek island of Fournoi where many ships sank in the fourth century.

Stylish, durable and easy to use, the new Caliber 6R54 Prospex will be available in all Seiko boutiques and select retail stores worldwide starting June 2023.
