Project Z13 and Histoire de Tourbillon showcase a side of Harry Winston that perhaps not many are familiar with – its fine Swiss watchmaking savoir-faire
There’s a certain charming urgency when Marilyn Monroe uttered the words “Harry Winston” in the memorable musical ode to diamonds, Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend. Truthfully, that name will forever be synonymous with diamond jewellery lusted by women the world over.

While that may be the case, in recent years, Harry Winston has also been working its charm on the men, slowly but surely staking a claim in haute horlogerie and accumulating quite an impressive portfolio in the process. Who could forget its Opus series that saw the brand working with some of the top independent watchmakers including F.P. Journe, Christophe Claret and Greubel Forsey.
While the Opus is certainly a high point for Harry Winston, the following pair of watches is nothing to scoff at.
For instance, Project Z is a collection of sporty timepieces that introduced zalium to the world of watches. The zirconium-based metal alloy is known for being highly anti-corrosive and strong, making it perfect for making the cases of watches designed for the active lifestyle.

The latest, Project Z13, continues this narrative with zalium being used to construct the architectural case. This time, however, it is also emboldened with a new retrograde date display and a moon phase. The latter is crafted in zalium but what’s more interesting is its atypical design inspired by the Shuriken symbol. Instead of being circular, it is dodecagonal in shape.
Limited to 300 pieces, the watch is powered by the HW3202 automatic caliber, the decorative Cotes de Geneve and graining on it can be viewed via both sapphire caseback and small openings on the dial.
