The evening saw guests arrive at the German watchmaker's Ion Orchard boutique for a very special viewing of the Zeitwerk and other A. Lange & Sohne timepieces
Mention A. Lange & Söhne and watch the ears of bona fide horology enthusiasts and collectors perk up. The German brand has a long and deep heritage of watchmaking, dating back to 1845. And throughout the decades—and centuries—it has continued to push boundaries with exceptional craftsmanship and an unwavering commitment to quality and innovation, having produced its movements entirely in-house since the very beginning.
The brand is deeply valued by its loyal clientele for its mechanical prowess and timeless design, with each piece ensuring exclusivity, rarity and investment potential—and enduring value—due to their precision, reliability and acute attention to detail.
It is for these exact reasons that the brand and Tatler Singapore came together to host a special evening at the watchmaker’s boutique in Ion Orchard for a special viewing of the Zeitwerk and other A. Lange & Söhne timepieces.
The evening, while intimate, was truly in-depth, starting with a presentation by Charles Langlois, managing director of A. Lange & Söhne South East Asia and Australia. Guests including Bernard Cheong, Dolly Cheong and Benjamin Kim—all of whom were sporting A. Lange & Söhne pieces of their own—were spotted deep in conversation with Langlois, who delved into the technicalities of both the timepieces on show, as well as the new novelties recently featured at Watches and Wonders 2023.
The star of the night was the Zeitwerk. Setting itself apart from the world of analogue timepieces, it is the first mechanical wristwatch with a jumping numerals mechanism consisting of three discs, and features a digital display, all made up of 451 components. Besides discovering the timepieces up close, as well as a wall featuring each element that makes up this trailblazing design, guests also got to “make” one of their own in the form of a sticker activity that, to their surprise, required quite the level of precision and concentration to get right.
Champagne, canapes and cherry juice made in the same area in Germany and A. Lange & Söhne kept spirits high throughout the evening, while conversations continued to flow in the boutique’s private suite—much like a secret watch club where only the most enthusiastic and well-versed were allowed.
