But who and what is the Tag Heuer watch for? Sonia Chew wants to surprise and one-up her partner, Jeremy Sng, for Christmas

Sonia Chew is not a competitive person by nature. But this Christmas, she wants to give things a little different spin.

Knowing what her better half, Jeremy Sng, is like—he's probably prepared the Christmas present way in advance—she decides to go all guns blazing and surprise him with a gift before he does, for a change. To up the ante, she plans to prepare a meal as well: it means a lot because the kitchen, according to her, is "not her favourite corner in the house".

So one day after their morning run, Chew badgers Sng to take a shower before she whips up a storm in the kitchen. Phew! She manages not to burn the house down and prepares the two of them brunch, which Sng labels as "cute". And why crack her brain when Tag Heuer's local friend of the brand knows that the ideal gift for Sng can be found at the Swiss watchmaker?

Above Radio DJ and media personality Sonia Chew's big Christmas project is to find the perfect Tag Heuer watch. But who and what is the watch for?

Sonia Chew On The Ideal Chrismas Present

"There are no hard and fast rules. But swinging by the Tag Heuer boutique helps because there are so many beautiful and iconic designs that it's hard and nearly impossible to resist them. Plus, these Swiss-made watches are accurate, precise and highly reliable. Here are five of my current favourites that I reckon would make fabulous gifts."

1. Tag Heuer Monaco 37mm

"Black is always classy and safe but brown makes for a beautiful alternative too, especially when the watch comes with diamond-set hour indices and matching sunray-brushed dial and alligator strap. And who can resist the iconic Monaco watch that was first launched in 1969? I know I can't."

2. Tag Heuer Aquaracer Bamford Limited Edition

"First, this is an Aquaracer, possibly Tag Heuer's most popular collection. Second, this is a collaboration with the ultra-cool Bamford Watch Department from the UK. It is known to push limits when it comes to re-interpreting watch designs. Third, this watch, which is crafted out of Grade 2 titanium, is only limited to 1,500 pieces worldwide. I could go on but you get what I mean. Get. It. Now."

3. TAG Heuer Carrera Sport Chronograph 160 Years Special Edition

"This is a special year for the Tag Heuer Carrera because it celebrates the brand's 160th anniversary. And to fete this milestone, the watchmaker has released two versions of this watch—one with a blue dial and one with a white dial—which is powered by the Heuer 02 manufacture movement. My favourite is the blue variant, of course, and I'm sure Jeremy will like it too. He'd better! Oh, did I mention that there are only 1,860 pieces per design in the world?"

4. Tag Heuer Carrera 160 Years Montreal Limited Edition

"This is another interesting limited-edition creation that celebrates the 160th anniversary of Tag Heuer. Named after and inspired by the Montreal, a collection of beautiful and colourful Heuer automatic chronographs from 1972, this Carrera is a good balance of vintage design codes and modern aesthetics. It has a power reserve of 80 hours and measures only 6.95mm thick, which is really slim for a chronograph."

5. Tag Heuer Carrera 160 Years Silver Limited Edition

"I have been eyeing this watch for a while already. The Tag Heuer Carrera 160 Years Silver Limited Edition is based on the monochrome silver-dial model of 1964 but now features the highly reliable and efficient calibre Heuer 02, which is entirely developed and manufactured by the brand. I love how the silver chronograph counters contrast against the silver sunray-brushed dial. There are only 1,860 creations worldwide and I hope I get to own one of them this Christmas. Please, Santa, please."
