Based in Glashutte, the birthplace of German watchmaking, A. Lange & Söhne was founded in 1845 by Ferdinand A. Lange, the man responsible for Glashutte’s transformation into an industrial centre for watchmaking. The company ceased operation in 1948 before it was revived by the late Walter Lange, Ferdinand's great-grandson, in 1994. Despite an absence of 45 years, it quickly regained ground, bolstered by its deep know-how and skill.

Last month, 100 pieces of the manufacture's finest timepieces were flown into Kuala Lumpur for a three-week long exhibition at Sincere Fine Watches in Suria KLCC. This major showcase follows the retailer’s successful 100 Tourbillons exhibition in 2014 and 100 Complications in 2016; A. Lange & Söhne is the first brand to headline its own 100 Exhibition Series.

Of note are the archival pocket watches from the early years as well as the four watches, Lange 1, Saxonia, Arkade and Tourbillon ‘Pour le Merite’, that were presented at the brand’s relaunch in 1994. There are also dedicated sections for each product family and several of its most distinguishing innovations including the outsize date and the zero-set mechanism. This ride down memory lane eventually culminates in some of its latest watches including the Datograph Up/Down Lumen as well as the Saxonia Outsize Date and Moon Phase.

An eye-opening showcase of the best in German watchmaking, the exhibition will go on until Dec 16, 2018.
