Inspired by the ocean, built to endure and designed to impress, Seiko celebrates 60 years of timeless dive watch mastery

The boundless stillness of the ocean embodies both power and serenity, a duality Seiko masterfully captures in its Prospex diver’s watch collection. In 1965, the brand introduced Japan’s first diver’s model, setting a new standard in horology. Now, in its 60th year anniversary, the Prospex collection honours that legacy with three exclusive limited editions. A tribute to the last six decades of innovation, these timepieces reflect the sea’s spirit: resilient, graceful and ever in motion.

At the pinnacle of the series is the Prospex Marinemaster Professional SLA081J1, a 600-piece limited edition that combines professional-grade engineering with sculptural refinement. For enthusiasts seeking style and performance, this creation embodies technical mastery with the newly developed Calibre 8L45, a mechanical movement engineered for unmatched precision and durability. Its titanium case provides an impressive 600 metres of water resistance, while its sculpted contours and dual-curved sapphire crystal showcase an exceptional level of craftsmanship. The dial, rendered in a gradient blue, evokes shinkai, or “deep sea”, with a wave-textured finish that plays beautifully with light, even beneath the surface.

Two more models join the tribute, each limited to 6,000 pieces, drawing on heritage and updated for modern life. The Seiko Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver’s Watch SPB511J1 pays homage to the 1965 original, featuring a classic 40mm stainless steel case, 300-metre water resistance and the automatic Calibre 6R55 with a 72-hour power reserve. Its silver dial is sleek and striking—a quiet nod to sunlight on still water.

Far beyond mechanical precision, these timepieces reflect a deeper purpose. In its 60th year, Seiko Prospex renewed its commitment to ocean preservation through a partnership with JAMSTEC’s Arctic research. Across the collection, meticulous craftsmanship is evident from Lumibrite indexes and scratchresistant coatings to adaptive clasp systems. Despite their rugged durability, these instruments carry a quiet elegance, much like the sea itself: calm yet commanding, powerful yet poised. Whether navigating urban currents or exploring offshore depths, these watches are designed to keep going forward.
