To mark the 12th edition of Le Mans Classic, Richard Mille introduces the RM 30-01 LMC, a 150-piece limited edition that fuses racing heritage with cutting-edge watchmaking, honouring one of motorsport’s most legendary endurance events

Every two years, Le Mans Classic transforms the legendary Sarthe circuit, located just outside the town of Le Mans in northwestern France, into a riveting showcase of some of the greatest cars ever to race. First held in 2002, the event celebrates the golden eras of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the world’s oldest endurance race, which has tested drivers and racing machines since 1923. Le Mans Classic brings together cars representing each major era of the race from 1923 through to 1981, alongside more recent classics from the early 2000s. For one summer weekend, vintage Bentleys, Jaguars, Ferraris and prototypes thunder down the same 13.6km track that still hosts the modern 24-hour competition. More than 200,000 spectators gather trackside to watch these icons compete once more, soaking up the sights, sounds and atmosphere of motorsport history in motion.

For Richard Mille, a principal partner since the very first edition, Le Mans Classic is more than a tribute to racing’s past; it is a living expression of the brand’s dedication to high-performance engineering and enduring mechanical beauty. For the 12th edition this July, Richard Mille unveiled the RM 30‑01 Le Mans Classic, a limited edition of just 150 pieces. Like the historic cars that inspired it, this timepiece is built for performance and also made to be admired, capturing both the romance and rigour of motor racing in every detail.

As with its 10 previous Le Mans Classic editions since 2008, the new RM 30-01 Le Mans Classic dresses its advanced mechanics in the event’s unmistakable green and white livery. The sculpted 42mm by 49.9mm case layers titanium bezels over a striking green quartz TPT case band, its marbled texture echoing the meticulous engineering of a vintage racer’s bodywork. Flip it over and the sapphire crystal caseback bears the Le Mans Classic logo.

While its bold, sporty aesthetic catches the eye, it is the movement within that best embodies the Richard Mille ethos. Equipped with the Calibre RMAR2, the RM 30-01 Le Mans Classic demonstrates the same precise focus on function that defines a top-flight race car. The skeletonised dial is reworked to evoke the fluid lines of a racing circuit, while a new 24-hour counter nods to the endurance challenge at the heart of Le Mans. A closer look reveals the section bearing the numerals 16 shaded in green—a tribute to the race’s legendary 4pm start time, also known as the green flag, that has launched so many racing dreams into the dusk.

Other thoughtful details keep the watch firmly in the paddock: the clutch engagement indicator at 11 o’clock shows whether the rotor is engaged for winding, while a function selector at 3 o’clock makes setting the crown straightforward. A 55-hour power reserve display traces its arc through openworked titanium bridges, as if lapping the track one more time before dawn breaks.

While the RM 30-01 Le Mans Classic is resolutely technical, it is equally a statement of the bond between watchmaking and motor racing; a link forged not just through sponsorship but through genuine, rubber-burning passion. Founder Richard Mille, co-founder Dominique Guenat and now Guenat’s son, Maxime, have all taken the wheel at historic races. It is a rare sight in luxury circles to have a brand that does not just put its name on the banners but takes its place on the starting grid.

This same spirit infuses the watch’s green vented rubber strap—a practical nod to racing gloves and steering wheels—and ensures the watch wears lightly and securely, whether its wearer is behind the wheel of a 1960s GT or simply navigating the day’s demands at their own pace. Just as the Le Mans Classic continues to grow, drawing hundreds of thousands of spectators and over 1,000 drivers to race history’s finest machines, so too does Richard Mille keep pushing the limits of what a modern mechanical watch can be.
