From the office to aquatic adventures, Omega’s 2020 novelties with Master Chronometer have got you covered

Our social, professional and outdoors activities have been somewhat stymied this year. Optimistically, Omega’s line-up for 2020 operates on the proviso that we’ll soon be liberated to once again get to work, venture into nature and enjoy dressy evenings on the town.

For enthusiasts who prize precision and performance, the Master Chronometer does the trick. Not just once, but twice, as each individual timepiece is certified by METAS—Switzerland’s official authority on all standards of measurement and measuring equipment and procedures. The watchmaker ensures that their movements, as well as their completed watches, undergo up to 8 Master Chronometer tests over a 10-day period. This includes testing for water resistance, temperature fluctuation, and exposure to magnetic fields of 15,000 gausses.

Perfect for your return to the boardroom (or the Zoom conferences that suffice in the meantime), Omega’s elegant Constellation range has recently undergone a sensitive 21st-century revision. The first Constellations were originally launched in the early 1950s. An homage to the Lockheed Constellation aircraft that revolutionised long-haul travel, the name alluded to the fact that this timepiece was designed for the jetset. In new distinctively ‘clawed’ 41mm case, the Constellation remains a sophisticated choice for the man on the move.

From the office to the ballroom, Omega’s sleek De Ville range is ideal for those tuxed-up moments. The line now features an exclusive numbered-edition Master Chronometer boasting—literally front and centre on the dial—that epic complication, the tourbillon, its cage featuring hand-polished bevels in black ceramised titanium. Priced a touch above a million Hong Kong dollars, it is powered by a hand-wound movement integrating the marque’s signature co-axial escapement, with a three-day power reserve. This mechanical marvel is borne in a 43mm Sedna and Canopus gold case.

Sedna gold—Omega’s proprietary rose gold blend—is a new option in the 38mm Speedmaster collection. The iconic ‘moon watch’ in this svelte, classic size is now also presented in handsome yellow gold, both iterations offering the option of a jewelled bezel for the ladies or indeed, the more audacious gentlemen among us.

From deep space to the deep blue sea, one of the standouts from Omega’s 2020 catalogue is inspired by yachting’s greatest competition, the America’s Cup. Omega is now the Cup’s official timekeeper and celebrates that fact with a nautical-chic red, white and blue Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M. A husky diver’s watch built to withstand the most forbidding depths, it’ll look just a great on dry land coupled with a navy blazer.

In a further America’s Cup connection, Omega has also produced a collaboration with one of the race’s former winners. The Dark Side of the Moon Alinghi Speedmaster echoes the high-tech construction of the racing vessels from which it takes its name. Its robust 44mm case is hewn from zirconium oxide ceramic, carbon-motif design cues reference the yacht’s hull material, while black-and-red livery mimics that of the Swiss-based Alinghi team.

Synonymous with aquatic pursuits, Omega has also recently launched three attractive takes on legendary diver’s watch, the Seamaster 300M. There’s the James Bond special-edition titanium version revealed last year, plus a new numbered, limited-edition iteration of the same model in a platinum-gold case, with a black enamel dial featuring 007’s spiralling gun-barrel motif in white gold. Finally, Omega has unveiled the black ceramic-dial Nekton edition Seamaster 300M, supporting the not-for-profit oceanic research foundation that gives the timepiece its name.
